ROUND-BREAKING AI BRINGS HISTORY TO LIFE - NEW EXHIBITION UNVEILS THE UNTOLD STORY OF A GILDED AGE AMERICAN HEIRESS.
A new exhibition offers a glimpse into the captivating world of Alberta Sturges Montagu, the 9th Countess of Sandwich, and an American Heiress from the renowned era known as The Gilded Age.
Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.
Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.
The exhibition will explore Alberta's formative years in America, her upbringing in Chicago and New York, and the significance of her inheritance. Visitors will unravel the captivating courtship between Alberta and George Montagu, the future 9th Earl of Sandwich, leading to their marriage in 1905 in London. The narrative will culminate with her relocation to Hinchingbrooke House, the original family seat, in 1916 as the new Countess, following the death of the 8th Earl of Sandwich.
The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.

I used to know the Countess of Sandwich quite well. She always introduced herself as Mrs. Caroline Montagu. I knew that her husband was John and I only discovered who she really is when i was reading a book about the British aristocracy in the 19th century, which mentioned John Montagu. She is very modest, supremely intelligent and utterly charming. I am very fortunate to have known her,

It was absolutely wonderful of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich themselves to take so much of their time to present to us, the public, their beautiful, historic home. They know the history of every building and the contents thereof and were kind to give us a "cook's tour," explaining in detail what is placed where and why it is there. Their graciousness warms the heart.

It's time to gift this couple with a make over and spa treatment to lift them up. They have focused too much on the property and not themselves. They deserve some personal attention. I love the wealth of knowledge these two have and what wonderful studies they are of their own family and history. I could listen to the two of them describe paint drying. Most importantly, I love what is "them"! How they speak to each other, finish and add to each others sentences. How the Countess calls him Johnny and when the Earl said " he married a wonderful person like many Montagu's" and then the Countess looked at him!!!!!!!!! I could eat them with a spoon. The tenderness they share and their sweet disagreements about what is what. Most importantly is their generosity to take us on this AMAZING tour. I am humbled. As always, sending a big, obnoxious, American hug.

The Earl and Countess are wonderful to listen to; first because of the history of the place they are giving, but also the cute way they interact with each other. 🥰 I noticed something else and you may be able to explain what was happening. at 38:19 in the video, it looks like a shadow peeked through the doorway crack behind the Earl as he was explaining about some pictures. It was just for a second and then it pulled back. ?? Maybe it was a staff or crew member?
