How to navigate and use the maps on the Fenix 6? In this Fenix 6 tutorial, I show you how to use the maps and navigation features on the Fenix 6. The maps on the Fenix 6 are very detailed and show not only topography, but include hiking / running trails, streets, and landmarks.

Note: Maps and Navigation are limited to the Fenix 6 Pro model and above. This includes Points of Interest, Around Me, Courses, Round-trip Courses, Activities, Saved Locations, Last MOB, Sight 'N Go, Coordinates, and use Map.
All map and navigation features on the Fenix 6 can be accessed by opening the Navigate activity on the watch. Once there you will find the following map and navigation options:
• Points of Interest: The Fenix 6 will find places near you using the GPS. These points of interest will be organized by category and include popular travel destinations such as hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and stores.
• Around Me: Similar to Points of Interest, but this option allows you to choose the direction of the search. It also allows for searching of points of interest by name.
• Courses: Navigation using a collection of points of interest or saved locations on the watch.
• Round-Trip Courses: Similar to courses, but will reverse the order to bring you back to the beginning of the course.
• Activities: Allows you to view your activities from a map and navigation standpoint. This includes navigating you through the activities again, viewing it on a map, and seeing detailed information about the activity.
• Saved Locations: List of saved waypoints on your Fenix 6. This is where you can view, edit and navigate to them.
• Last MOB: This allows you to save and navigate to the last Man Overboard location on the watch. This can be configured to be opened using hot keys as well for quicker access.
• Sight 'N Go: Allows the Fenix 6 to navigate toward landmarks by simply pointing the watch in the direction of the landmark. I have not had much luck using this feature, but I could see it being useful in some situations.
• Coordinates: Allows you to manually enter GPS locations into the Fenix 6
• Use Map: Opens the map to your current locations. Allows you pan and zoom so you can see your surroundings.

When I select a gpx route that I have loaded and click "Map" the map centers on some area on the other side of the globe rather than on the route or centered on me. Is there someway to make it center on the route I have selected or on me?

Not too many roads in the Libyan Desert - but you were close to finding directions to Al Jufra Air Base :-) One important thing I found - make sure you have loaded a routing enabled map before starting. Not one of the maps ending NR.

Hello, is there an option to navigate to the starting point of newly created course? I am not asking for Back to start function of completed course. For instance, if the starting point is car parking near a trail, can I select the course and navigate to the starting point?

Hi, great video. When i have selected a course that i have down loaded from garmin express it does not give me alerts and vibrations when a turn is coming up . I know that it should have an arrow at the bottom to turn when i am at the actual turn and there should also be a warning that the turn is coming up just before it. But this is not working on mine, please help. I have a garmin fenix 6 pro sapphirre, thank you very much.

map can be seen as satelite, with vegetation and stuff, as one can see GoogleMaps on a phone? is there an Always on Display ? if yes, is strong enoug to be seen in direct sunlight?

Hello i have a question, difference between fenix 6 pro solar and 7 solar in regards to maps. Are they the same? Can i select to drive a atv for example on the 6? Will i be loosing to much by getting the fenix 6 pro solar instead of the fenix 7 when it comes to map information? I would save $300 if i get 6 pro solar atm so considering it over the 7 solar. Thanks for the video! it was really good to see how it's all working. But I'm confused what watch color do you use, is it regular Fenix 6 Pro? I'm asking because it looks nice and have silver bezel but on Garmin site there is only black bezel available for Pro.

That explains why I couldn't find that color it looks good on the video but probably I'll opt for a cheaper version still as Sapphire is too expensive so far. Also, can you please tell if Fenix line have limits on amount of apps we can install? As it's very limited on Vivoactive and I never have enough space to install all datafields and apps I need.

Love the videos thank you for your help. I couldn't find last MOB on my menu turns out i had set ultra track so mob doesn't show up when i scroll through menu but if i use option up right away when entering activity to is there. when i changed ultra trac to gps and glonass it shows last mob. not sure if the applies to my watch only or all.

That spinning progress bar (1:12) is not for a gps its progressive bar to bring the data to list up .

The navigation functions seem to be very similar to those on my Garmin Descent MK I smart watch and dive computer. Does the Fenix 6 have the same navigation functions similar to the Garmin Foretrex 401 and Foretrex 601 wrist GPS's? For example, the Garmin Foretrex in navigation mode can have a slew of navigation functions such as "Turn (left or right turns in degrees to stay on course), ETA, Final Distance, Final Arrival, etc. I have used the MK I to navigate off trail as well as by boat on the water. I once was doing one of the Appalachian Mountain Club's 100-Highest (Mt Nancy in NH), and the MK I's Map showed a herd trail to the summit labeled "Mt Nancy Trail," which I followed to the summit. The 100-Highests are bushwhacks, and I came prepared to hike to the summit using an orienteering compass and a topo map. That was a big surprise to find such a trail already on the MK I Map.

@@3xistenc3 you could edit the Hike activity setting and then add another data page and have it set as maps. That way whilst you’re in the hike activity you’ll just need to press down to get to a different data screen.

I should have mentioned this in the video. All of the maps and navigation are stored in the watch. No external source such as cell service or wifi is needed.

How often do people actually use the maps on the watch for urban areas (like finding a restaurant) instead of just using your phone? It seems like using the buttons to navigate would be annoying. But for hiking, etc the maps would be amazing.

I totally agree. I found it useful when traveling to remote areas and towns with no service. I was able to navigate to a local restaurant with the watch. It's a nice feature but the definitely better for hiking.

Exact reason I'm getting it. Got lost, had no idea where I was, somehow made it out, but with this I'd just open my watch and head towards wherever I need to go lol. That worry is now gone.

@@Ky-vv8nj I got lost in the forest with it, it never made gps contact after 20 minutes. I was on a mountain if that matters. In the city I got GPS after about 10 minutes. Idk why it takes so long..I bought mine used for half the cost in case anyone needs to know.

I had the same issue when I was watching this. When u first get the watch, you have to go into settings and pick Navigation and set it as a favorite, then it will appear and you can go into it. Drove me nuts. Kept thinking the beginning of the video was as missing.

Gauging Gadgets Thanks! Didn’t realize that some models did not include the maps and navigation. I just ordered a 6x sapphire and when you said I needed a pro, I was about to cancel. hi sorry to bother but for some reason my fenix 6 map now has this line at the bottom going across and distance to start there. Its missing the 2 data fields that i had previously - Travel time and distance. Both these fields are missing? i did a reset but same problem. Correct. You must have at least the pro to get maps.

how long did it take to find the gps each time? You was time lapsing so I didnt get it...Also it would be usefull to see the navigation in process of guiding You throgh streets etc to see how fast it updates Your location and is it lagging or not.

Hello, depending on your surroundings it should only take a couple seconds to sync the GPS. As for the navigation guidance, I find it extremely useful and have used it on hikes and even in cities to navigate. It is very similar to google maps navigation on your phone and does not have lag.

Gauging Gadgets did you have the previous model, Fenix 5 plus with maps? I have found trying to navigate a route longer than about 5km unworkable. It takes as long as 30mins to calculate the route. I would like to upgrade but want to be sure that the new model performs better.

Hey Ryan, I have 5 plus and navigate with my bike 50km ++ with no problem. Not sure what your settings are?

my 6x pinpoint my current location(rural area in Borneo island) in 30 secs, more or less. calculating walking routes (tested at 2km and 10km destination) would take less than 1 min. pretty impressive if u ask me.. probably ur gps settings didnt turn on GLONASS/GALILEO?

Even a cheaper Fenix 5 will do, but price difference is so little, i'd go for a 6.

Do the maps work without the watch being connected to the phone?

Yes, all of the map data is stored in the watch. No need to have any connection to your phone or wifi.

@@GaugingGadgets What about the fenix 6s (not Pro) without WiFi. Is there a map function too? Maybe with connection to the Phone. Or no maps at all? I don't really need the other features from the 6s Pro (like SkiMaps Golf, Music etc...) maps would be interesting but not a must have.

This watch is great, but its let down by a screen one can only navigate with the buttons. Very Frustrating. Wish Garmin would get with the program and make their screen touch sensitive

I prefer the buttons over a touchscreen. Works great when went and there are rarely any accidental pressed buttons.

The menus are a little cluttered if you only want the watch for specific features. Is it possible to remove/hide certain activities?

Definitely worth every dollar/euro. All other smartwatches are worthless, because they are not sportwatches. Lack of batterylife, lack of maps support etc...
