Even using the name Holland for the whole country it would still sort of keep the same meaning, While the real meaning of Holland is "Wood-Land" the word "hol" means hollow or hole (usually in the context of the ground, so a ditch would be a hol or a rabbit's tunnel), so it would still be describing "Low Land".

I think you missed the mark on why *UK* is included in the countries that don't have a name. It's "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", And apart from the sketchy "United Kingdom" which is not really a name saying "Northern Ireland" is just the same thing as saying "South Africa". Anyway I don't think that it's a problem when a country completely identifies with its geographical region. Incidentally Australia should be on the list, because as a matter of facts "Australia" the continent does not exactly match with "Australia" the country. The latter is just a part of the Australian continent just like South Africa is just a part of Africa, except in the case of Australia it's almost all of it.

4:49 In Norway we pronounce the "s". You can think about the whole country name as "Eesland" with an "a" like in the British "banana". You should click on the speaker to hear what it it sounds like. So the translation of Iceland to Island is literal. ‘Is’ means ice. In Danish (and Norwegian as well I believe), whereas the English word ‘island’ translates to ‘ø’. This means that the name for Iceland in many of the Nordic languages translated to English is… Iceland. As in the land of ice. It has nothing to do with actual islands.

To say that would also be to say America doesn't have its own culture because its culture is built up of other cultures from all over the world. Just because it's built up of the odd French, German and Latin words doesn't mean it's not it's own entity.

Of course English is built up of different languages, it was birthed and evolved by settlers from all over Northern Europe, doesn't mean its not its own language though and it was named after the land it was convieved in. If I started speaking English to a French or German person who hadn't learned it, they wouldn't have a clue what I'm saying. Because it's another language from theirs; doesn't matter what a teacher thinks. An English teacher who can't recognise English as its own language should quit their job because that's the most ridiculous statement.

5:06 The "middle east" refers as middle of the east from America(close east would theoretically be europe). In Czechia, we refer to Arabia, Persia and these regions as "Blízký východ"(Close east). 9:12 Zambia is the only "Z" country. Rhodesia does not start with "Z".

actually the middle east started to be used to identify that region when the european sailors discovered the existence of east asia, such as japan, korea and china, back then we just thought that the east was all about india, iran, arabia and the ottomans
