I'm Indonesian, and your analysis about Indonesian's police is spot on Before Kanjuruhan incident, there's a big scandal in Indonesian police where one Inspector General caught murdering his subordinate to conceal his corrupt business. With Kanjuruhan incident and that scandal, the reputation of Police Department is on all-time low. And basically almost everyone in Indonesia didn't trust Policeman at all

When I was around 10 years old, I asked one person one time why people take soccer so seriously, even though I root for Arsenal and the Houston Dynamo. And the guy said to some people soccer is life and it's that when sometimes the passion for the game itself goes too far. 😔 Prayers to all the family and friends who had lost loved ones in this tragedy.

As an Indonesian and a Football Fan cases of fan problems is sorta common, many Indonesians don’t really accept losing that well and that was the problem that many rules were made like Rival Fans can’t travel to away stadiums on derbies, Heavy armored trucks must be provided during these derbies and the incompetency didn’t help, I appreciate u making this video as it shined Light to some of the problems of Indonesian football and Indonesia overall.

Though I might leave for a couple hours during the stream for the Man United game, and adding to the fact that the stream is literally 9pm to 4am my time, I'll try and be there as much as possible. This is a tragedy that shouldn't have happened if people weren't so ignorant to not only rules of safety from Fifa, but literally common sense of safety from the ones responsible. A personal message to Indonesians and even the national team, you guys are passionate about football. As a Vietnamese, I am very serious, but youth team wise, you have the best foundation in the entire South East Asian region, Thailand and Vietnam ain't even close at least compared to the U23 generation you all have. And every match that I saw between Vietnam and Indonesia, there would be troves of Indonesians there to spport the clause, as much as even Vietnam. So don't because of this lose your passion to football as as whole, we all can be able to push on from this tragedy, and we can at least try our hardest to make an attempt to bring those responsible for the tragedy to light.

I'm Indonesian and the culture of our football scene is heartbreaking. So many innocent people dying just because of either dumb radicals or even dumber police. The football federation and also the government NEEDS to make drastic measures to make it safe for everyone to enjoy the beautiful game because these tragedies of football fans dying are not uncommon and it's sad. I even watched a man saying that he will never watch football again because he lost two of his daughters and his wife in the Kajuruhan tragedy and only has his son now. I nearly cried watching it because it was so sad seeing him in this much pain. People should never die over this.

I just wanted to add some additional facts about this tragedy and Indonesian football/policing in general: 1. The game is only filled with Aremania/Arema FC supporters, since the derby had a history of violence and the FA had prohibited Persebaya supporters (Or Bonek) to come to *away* games. That's how violent the supporters could be, and its not only limited to that rivalry. The FA had either issued cautions or outright bans for historically violent matches in the past. 2. The stadium was reportedly overcrowded, the police actions and the closed gates certainly didn't help on the victim count. 3. Historically the Indonesian police and military were always feared of what they can do. They can be calm on one second, taunting protesters on another, and then fire live rounds at them the rest of the afternoon (Look up the 1998 Trisakti Tragedy) 4. Most of the people who attended football matches are adolescents or young adults. It's a very cheap way to meet up with friends and/or likeminded community and enjoy a game of football. Football historically has a strong bond with the working class and the poor. People come to games after a long days work of back breaking labour and minimal pay, not to be victims of police brutality and ignorance. I'll add some more in edits...

a novice academician that learnt Disaster Risk Reduction here. Whilst i agree the death toll mainly caused by tear gas, however, this disaster is legit 100% caused by the sewer-like total football structure system in Indonesia. The main idea for reducing disaster risk is to improve and secure the Capacity (mitigation technique, transparant and humane structure, etc) because the Hazard would always there. As an indonesian myself that had seen all the rotten structure (from the top, PSSI, to bottom, the supporter) along the years eventually came into this massive tragedy. Worse that our FA wouldnt even catch a glimpse and said "we arent responsible" (how tf? You are the top that should manage it all) and made our president lend his hand to work with FIFA for rehabilitate our football system...

As an Indonesian, honestly yeah this is heartbreaking and shameful tragedy that'll be recorded as gloomy history in 21st century. Y'know this all happened coz the poor institution that manages football and the PSSI Federation in coordinating the match. This is no longer an open secret, especially in Indonesia. And also for the sake of TV ratings, the match held and broadcast during prime time in Indonesia which is at night. Actually, it makes gettin' worse and harder to control riots and ultras movements. Therefore, the apparatus with their SOPs took their own actions without following the SOPs from FIFA. this is also the result of the lack of socialization of SOPs and FIFA regulations by PSSI to all parties who involved and responsible for this incident. I respect to you 'bout wanna raise, discuss this issue, and doing the charity 🙌🙌. Condolences and RIP for all victims that affected by this incident 🙏🙏.

First, huge respect for what you did here as Indonesian. Then, i want to say my condolance toward victim and family. Now, this fucking chaos happening not because of new trend. Tear gas, police brutality, and riot are often happening here in Indonesia. I even remember on early 2000s that my city had a night hours because of "derby" match. This... by far the biggest wake up call for Indonesian football hooliganism and police brutality. To think innoncence die here, it break my heart. The police here rarely got punish, and like you said, they held too much power. In context of just football, many people got beating up to pulp just because they were at the wrong time, at the wrong place, and at wore wrong shirt. It is fucking disgraceful how authority act here. What they did here, is like puring gasoline into the fire. Its really stupid and idiotic.

We had the same problem in Argentina a week ago. It was far less brutal, and it doesn't amount nearly to a 10th of the damage and loss of life that Indonesians in that stadium had to suffer. It was a match for the Liga Profesional de Fútbol, between Gimnasia y Esgrima against Boca Juniors. The match didn't go for 5 minutes until the police started firing tear gas and rubber bullets from outside to stop anyone who wanted to enter whilst the match was happening. The gas entered the stadium, people started trespassing to the pitch so as to be safe, and the police kept firing their shots. A news cameraman was shot in the groin, and one man died on his way to the hospital. Though the loss is still there, and it fucking sucks that shit like this happens, it doesn't compare to what our Indonesian brothers lost. So I send my condolences to the families in hopes that this never happens again.

i agree to an extent but i also would imagine that in a life or death situation, self-preservation is often the first and only instinct a person has, and they’re probably much too focused on their own survival to notice any impact they had on others. and obviously theres the fact that everything couldve been avoided if the police knew how to do their jobs

Things I learned about Indonesian police from my travels there:- 1) Always bring your passport with you even if you stepped out for a few minutes from your hotel to go eat or to a store because if they asked you for it, even though you're just a few steps away from your hotel and you can't produce them, either empty your wallet or get cell time. This is amplified to a hundred when it's night time, being drunk is a honey pot for them. 2) Always talk nicely to them and smile even you've done nothing wrong when they approach you, if you think you have civil rights when they confront you, think again. 3) UNCONFIRMED but about 5 people (guides, friends I made when I was there) said this to me, only people with money can take the exam to be a police officer because it's expensive and becoming a police officer is a dream for most due to it being lucrative for the level of corruption, all the clubs I've been to have VIP treatment for police officers.

Honestly there are 2 versions to the story, one blames the police, the other blames everything INCLUDING the police, because yes, although the police were wrong when they fired tear gas as crowd control, we also have to see the other sides of the spectrum, like how the hosts printed way more tickets than they should have, or the fans running onto the pitch without a second thought (the cause of all this), or the fact that Indonesian football fans are known for this.

Yeah, the fans ran onto the pitch, but that doesn't really give an excuse to the police to just drop kick them, even when they are just standing. Not to mention, why are they treating this like a fucking raid and turning off the fucking lights to the stadium?

First and foremost, my condolences goes out to the victims and their families. However, this event is just a known case in the Indonesian football-watching culture. In an Under (yes, Under) national team and when their opposition LOST, on their way back to their accommodation there was pebble hurled at the damn bus. So I think this disaster was one in the making, however I never dare thought of such severity.

Thank you I'm an Indonesian i really appreciate your video After watching video : I agreed with you that's what I've been saying. The police are the biggest problem here and Indonesian police depau giving their men tear gas to the stadium when it's CLEARLY been ban really frustrate me. And it's just a theory but if you have heard of it there is this guy named "Sambo" who is a general and piece of shit and almost get death sentenced but "coincidentally" the police had huge disaster left and right. Now people don't know the status of Sambo which now probably won't get even sent to prison Edit 2 : and I'd like to imagine cjm being on your stream XD which will never happend because my guy is not fluent in english

I was having a good day coming back from a Charlotte FC vs Philadelphia Union 4-0 but then I heard the news. Rest in peace to all the people who lost their lives.

First of all, my condolences to all the friends / family of the people who passed away during this tragic incident. But I do want to say, I also feel quite bad for the teams / players themselves, they won for the first time ever against the other club and then something like this happens, I wouldn't be surprised if this might leave a fear to win again against the club because this might happen again. It's not rare for people to feel extreme guilt / anxiety just by being near a tragic incident, especially if your actions did have some involvement in it, no matter how little. (This also counts for the fans themselves that did survive, but I wouldn't be surprised if several players need therapy after this and will be massively affected in the future, possibly scared to win)

Firing tear gas recklessly to a big crowd in a place with limited exits is murder.

Indonesia has some insane soccer culture considering national team success. That being said, they need some Taylor report style changes before things get better there..

As a Greek, it pains to see a tragedy like that, under similar circumstances to what we experience here. In Greece you see, away fan travelling is banned for the biggest derbies in the country, due to fan conflicts, which did became even worse with the police being involved. This is shown in our cup finals, where it's really the only time where fans from rival teams are met, and the police tends to overuse tear gas whenever they can, specially outside the stadium before these matches, pretty much blocking all possible family experience, as no sane person would take their family into matches like these. Police being crappy here became evident some years ago, when in a cup final they blocked every part of the stadium EXCEPT the only place where the rivals could meet and fight, in order for them to say that "the only stadium where we can prevent fights is the Olympic one in Athens. Fans obviously fought that day, thankfully with no life threatening injuries. Life loss has happened in Greek stadiums, but never on a massive scale. That unfortunately happens in the streets, where people can die just for supporting another team. Our mentality plus the police brutality has made the Greek football very toxic and non family friendly, and it hits really hard to see something like that in another country and think that, this could very easily happen in a stadium where I could be present and could easily have suffered the worse outcome, just for watching my team play. Condolences to all of the victims, I'll try to catch your live stream and support the cause.
