Marana Pinal Airpark 2022 | Tour of Arizona's Airplane Graveyard | TWA 741, NWA 742, SAS A343 etc.
Little history on Pinal Airpark: The airfirld was originally built in 1942 to train soldiers for the ongoing war, WWII. Between '42 and '45, over 10,000 soldiers were trained here including over 2,000 Chinese soldiers. Many barracks, still seen today, held these soldiers. After the war was over, the airfield went dormant for a few decades until, similar to Victorville ( • Victorville Airplane G... ) and Mojave ( • Mojave Airplane Gravey... ), the world needed somewhere to store unneeded aircraft who had been retired. Northwest Airlines was the first airline to store some aircraft here before the TWA 747-100 seen at 7:12 landed here for the last time in October of 1996. Since then, thousands of aircraft have landed here...some leave after long term storage like the the Dream Lifter we saw, whereas some never leave similar to the ANA 742s, NWA 742Fs, the TWA 741, and, due to the pandemic, the SAS A343s. Hope you all enjoy this exclusive tour!
Thank you all for watching.

I saw the old O'Dool hangar was still there, but it looked like the restaurant and old barracks were mostly gone. Back in the 90's, there were old WWll tanks and planes there that the owner(Evergreen owner) used to buy and restore, then I remember hearing his son died and he stopped buying and restoring them. I saw a lot of cool shit there back in the day...so many low level flyby's, especially 747's, watched a pilot do a high speed engine run on the taxi way when they had just put down fresh asphalt right off to the side of it and he blew chunks of asphalt the size of cars flying, "CIA" crap occasionally in the middle of the night, a lot of crazy parties at the barracks, restaurant and pool, so many bad ass memories there. I was there when a lot of those TWA's, Atlas, and many other of the B747's were flown in to be put in that boneyard. What a shame.

She is still living for the time being, since she was sold to a company that committed to keeping her somewhat preserved. Unfortunately, PlaneTags has cut off much of the tail section for sale. Otherwise, other than her engines, she is fully intact. Thanks for the comment!

So being a Canadian, I naturally was curious what became of their 747 Classics. According to Simple Flying, one of their fates is unknown, registerered as C-GAGB. A flickr post claims that C-GAGB was stored here, and I was thinking maybe there's chance the plain white 747 @2:40 could be C-GAGB. Only solution is to look in the interior....

I understand. Unfortunately the "tour" is only to the same spot each time due to most companies not allowing photography and video (for some reason). From that point, we just test the luck of seeing other aircraft with our zoom lenses. Wish it weren't that way.

I am allowed to say, just not the name of the guide. He is the head of Airport OPS and after looking at the website, we were directed to this man. After emailing him, he kindly allowed us to film most of the tour. He’s a cool guy and, though the first bit of video was not perfect and we didn’t see all the aircraft there (this is due to multiple companies who own these parked/scrapped aircraft, some of which do not allow videography) I highly recommend trying got get a tour. I hope to return there in the spring similar to the time of this upload to hopefully get a tour of the rest of the aircraft for more photos and videos! Stay tuned and good luck!
