Marble Canyon: landing two Cessna 172s in the Grand Canyon with my brother

Making the flight we'd dreamed of since we were kids. Me and my brother Oli take two Cessna 172s (me in N604ND and Oli in N677ND) and fly to the very start of the Grand Canyon, landing at Marble Canyon (L41).

How was the runway condition when you were there? A video from a few months ago showed huge potholes all over the place.

So let's say the runway condition has 'character'! Perhaps the most rugged hard surface I've landed on, but I didn't notice any potholes that would've caused damage or control problems. I believe it may have been partially resurfaced before we made this trip. But don't take my word for it!

@@AdamMcClean do you fly on a stand-alone faa license? I’m currently on a U.K. CAA PPL with a 61.75 faa license in the LA area

⁠@@captainjorge7882 Exactly the same! I’ll have to give you a shout when I’m back in LA. I’m thinking of getting a standalone FAA Commercial Cert as I think you can go up one step from your foreign licence. Does that sound right?

You are going to get your Commercial through FAA? My plan is to get my IR, ME and CPL all on the FAA through my 61.75 license. I spoke to the DPE about it and I was made aware that as long as you have any ICAO recognised PPL then you can get more FAA Certificates.@@AdamMcClean
