A demonstration of the grey marble painting technique created on part of a sample board displayed in the studio to provide students with ideas and inspiration for the type of decorative paint effects and colour combinations they can create. This video demonstrates the technique used by a professional decorator, if you are interested in learning the painting technique, tools and paint used please check out our online art courses: www.southcoaststudio.co.uk/fa....
The marble paint effect is an ancient painting technique, yet even today provides an affordable alternative to buying real marble. Real marble countertops, flooring and other decor is very expensive and as a material is heavy and marks easily. Because the material is so heavy you have to consider whether the material is suitable for rooms above the ground floor. A practical alternative is hand-painted marble. Not only do you have complete control over the colour, intensity and finish of the marble design, it is significantly cheaper especially if you can learn how to do this technique yourself and if it gets marked or damaged you can easily touch-in and repair the paint work. Also, when you get bored you can easily repaint and redecorate. So it's much more versatile.
It's no wonder this paint effect is so popular. If you want to learn how to paint the marble effect our courses are designed for beginners and more experienced painters alike www.southcoaststudio.co.uk/fa....

Absolutely gorgeous! Great work. I think the detail sets the professionals apart, he made it look aged with the depth looking like real marble. Side note to negative Nancy's in every comment section: These are real people showing the world what they can do; helping some people that need it out of pure kindness. That being said every video will not be for everyone hense why so many videos will be alike. There are many ways to do a thing. So saying it's overworked is implying you know the result better then the artist. Which you don't. It's easy to say rude and mean things over Internet but we need to remember these are real people with real lives and real feelings. You don't know what battles a person Is fighting. Is it so hard to be kind or be quiet? I'm sorry I just had to say this.

Thanks, learning to paint with glazes is a worthwhile challenge, @@SouthCoastStudio. I can't help thinking about all of the time it took to master blending with thick acrylics, when this is so much more fluid and the effects are beautiful. In this video, at the 5:30 mark, are you applying clear glaze or tinted white glaze? I might have other questions, as I keep learning. I hope you don't mind.

Your demonstration was awesome but only if you would have kept describing all the details while working such as why did you paint so many layers, which paint were you using, what color contrast go well, does the paint have to dry between coatings and can we finally seal the work with any clear coating. When simulating marble try alcohol in a spray bottle for water based paints and naptha or lighter fluid for oil base paints it does at least half the job for you. I used to paint movie sets and for big surfaces like replicating the US Senate for Logan's run or the supreme court for first Monday in October we used homemade marble walpaper made with a rectangle container filled with water we floated oil paints on the surface with ketchup bottles pulled the rolls of paper under that water and when it came up the oil paint stuck to the top of the paper instant marble. Your work looks pretty good but I am sorry to say it would not get past any art director or decorator that I worked for . Keep at it the alcohol/naptha trick really works

Juliana Graham. if your desk is a white background I would use a acrylic system 3 paynes grey mixed with original glaze scumble . Then secondly mix your paynes grey with a white matt emulsion not vinyl your a white undercoat.Thirdly you could lightly use the paynes grey by it's self so it stand's out more for a heavier finish.
