I say the belly is for cutting say 3 inch limbs or branches then the protruding section for limbing the larger material then the point for kindling or fine cutting giving you an axe a machete and a fixed blade knife. Use the indent to choke up in the blade for shaving and so on but different strokes for different folks

I've found that it takes a while to get used to handling them. I have a smaller one that took me a long time to learn to use properly and I also regularly use an army issue Kukri (given to my wife when she was a young volunteer in the hills of Nepal), it is a superb tool, once you twig on what to do with the thing. It takes a lot of punishment (please don't tell my wife) and earns its keep alright. I hope that you persevered with it and enjoy it for what it is.

Thanks for your review! I just ordered one from Smokey Mountain Knife Works and it should be here next week! For $24.00, it’s worth it just for the sheath! I let you know how it goes once I turn it loose in the forest of Washington State. It looks like it will be a great chopper! 👍🏻

I just got one of these from smokey mountain knife works for 25 bucks plus tax and shipping. Chopped on some real hard wood no issues yet. I like the choil right at the balance point to choke up on for finer stuff. Feels only about 1.5lbs to me not too heavy. Edge could use reprofiled but definitely seems very nice for the price hopefully it holds up over time.

Hi, great video, I think the awkward shaped area is for choking up on the handle to do fine detail work. Also a bicycle inner tube cut and pulled over the handle might dampen the felt shock. Hope this helps. Thanks again and take care.

Wow! Big and beautiful, George. These things are great in the back yard. A real world knife. Gorgeous thing. Careful with it. It's a sharp and shiny--you know. // My heavy Kukri wasn't sharp at all when I got it but after sharpening, it became a scary tool. It is an effective chopper and slicer now.

Generally an actual 9-11" bladed Mark 5 style khukuri should weigh under 600 grams. My 9.5" Kailash weighs just over 400 grams and is a nice size, small enough to be practical and large enough to chop and baton. My oldest khukuri style blade is the Kabar Kukri Machete from back before they were made of SK5, mine is 1085 but hasn't really given me any issues in the many years I have owned it.

Love your channel! I just bought myself a Kukri. What’s that they say about great minds? Problem with mine is that I went plumb crazy. I sprung for the Tops Bushcrafters Kukuri 7. Blew the budget…several times over…but it’s going to be a good one I think. Not had the time to play with it yet.

Puny looking little Kukri like object. I have something called the Khukuri Cowboy, which has a 15 inch long blade. That I got from Khukuri House Thamel, from Nepal. I now have a second Khukuri, from Khukuri House Thamel, that has a 12 inch blade. Both are great knives.

@@2ndchancegeorge You should look up Khukuri House Thamel. They have Khukuri's starting at 15 dollars, and up. The military model, improved with a full flat tang is like 50, now shipping will be a tad high. But it is coming from Nepal direct,and the money you spend at that store, stays in Nepal. Any ways, I think you will be surprised. Holler if you need the URL.

This Kukri is as good as Cold Steel's $250 Gurka Kukri, which they switched to 4034 stainless steel, and are still trying to sell it for the same inflated price as their old Gurka Kukri, which was beastly.

@@2ndchancegeorge it's a really nice looking kukri. I'm sure it will work well for many tasks. Most people who own knives and machetes have a few stainless blades, because they want something decent that they don't have to deal with oiling. If they would list the type of stainless steel, I might be more interested.
@DDDYLN

@@2ndchancegeorge I can't really afford a genuine kukri either. Both Ka-Bar and Ontario make decent carbon steel kukris. The Ontario is bigger, thicker, and more traditional, for half the cost of the Ka-Bar. They're both 1095 carbon steel though, which is a bit too brittle IMO. Ontario has been switching all their big blades to 1075 carbon steel, which is a welcome change. Currently they say their kukri is discontinued, but I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with a 1075 version in the future. EDIT: apologies, Ontario just says their kukri isn't currently in stock. I suspect they'll be 1075 when they come back in stock.
