@@msTsoap for what it's worth, I too have this question! Or more specifically, does mixing the mica with the alcohol contribute to the overall look? I usually mix my mica with glycerin, but I know it has a different consistency when mixed with the alcohol1

Sure, I can do that. 1. Not all micas perform the same, and if they contain pigments or oxides, you may end up with spots. 2. Not all soaps perform the same, either, so it depends upon your soap base and the temperature at which you are soaping. 3. It's a time saver, as you don't have to stir as much with RA, which helps if you do intricate pours, or very time sensitive pours, or you're making videos. 4. If you disperse in fragrance oil, that works well, too, but then if you want to add more mica, you may not be able to add more FO, due to IFRA recommendations. 5. Some people like to use glycerin, and that works fine, too- I use it to disperse my titanium dioxide and my activated charcoal. 6. For the designs like the Pink Marble Swirl, Marbled Galaxy, and Nebula soaps, there are certain effects that are only achievable with alcohol, if you watch those videos, I point out when I'm using mica in alcohol and you can see how the colors spread in the soap. 7. The advantage of RA over glycerin is, the alcohol completely evaporates out of the soap and if you are adding glycerin you can add too much. Most brands of soap are pretty forgiving with the glycerin, but too much can affect the lather and sometimes glycerin dew. 8. If you need to add large amounts of mica, you're more likely to get spots or clumps that are not stirred in if you disperse it in nothing. I sometimes don't disperse mica at all, when adding very small amounts, works just fine for me. 9. CONCLUSION: basically, it's a personal choice, depends on what you're making and the brands you are using. There are many ways to mix in your micas and none of them are really wrong, unless you're adding too much of an additive like a carrier oil, or too much FO, and just be aware that it can mess up your design if it leaves spots.
