The Prelude is famous but the ending chorus is glorious! Charpentier is second to none.

This recording was made in 1976/7 at the church of São Vicente de Fora, Alfama, Lisbon. I visited the same church today and could feel the energy of this performance - I could almost see the performers in action, with microphones, cables and other recording equipment strewn around😀 ... Of the three recordings of TD in my collection, this is the one that comes out for a spin the most often. The car horn we hear @13'22" adds to the live atmosphere of this top class rendition 😅

Grandiosa esecuzione, buona anche la dizione a differenza di altre esecuzioni più recenti. Meravigliosa composizione sacro-barocca.

I must concur , this is one of the best recordings of TD . The tempo is spot on , annunciation is as it was written . Good job by all involved .I had this recording on vinyl in 1977 , lent it out and never got it back ! All I remembered was the ERATO.

Die beste Aufnahme, die ich auch noch aus den 70'er Jahren erinnere. Vor allem die Chorsätze in der ersten Hälfte sind unvergleichlich lebendig.

Fantastica esecuzione! È un piacere ascoltarla, grazie a Dio priva della malattia dei tempi odierni e cioè degli strumenti originali e dei loro pazzi esecutori.

Den genialen Einfallsreichtum von Charpentier entfaltet Michel Corboz auf das Prachtvollste und Kunstfertigste. Damit hat Corboz meinem Eindruck nach am überzeugendsten das Gotteslob zum Erklingen gebracht - es handelt sich gewiss um die Referenzeinspielung, die aber, wie es scheint, von vielen noch erkannt werden muss.

Merci pour la mise en ligne de cette version qui date de 40 ans déjà : Michel CORBOZ et l'orchestre GULBENKIAN. Surtout la prononciation romaine que nous avons appris au Séminaire d'Auch dans les années 1960 à 1966!

Very wonderful version, both instrumentally and vocally. My main issue with most recordings of Charpentier’s Te Deum is the pronunciation of the Latin. This is one of the few recordings I found where the pronunciation of the Latin is done superbly and is no hindrance to the general enjoyment of this divine piece.

Cette interprétation me semble préférable à celle de Minkowsky. Pourtant je regrette l'abandon de la prononciation latine traditionnelle en France. Deux ans plus tard, je confirme mon appréciation : plus j'écoute d'autres interprétations, plus je me convainc de la primauté de celle de Corboz. C'est vraiment superbe et tout-à-fait dans l'esprit du Grand Siècle. J'aime bien. J'avais autrefois acquis la première exécution, celle de Jean-François Paillard et je trouve qu'elle vieilli malgré l'immense talent de Maurice André.

una delle poche esecuzioni ascoltabili presenti su youtube, le altre sono quasi tutte esecuzioni antimusicali dei cosidetti gruppi di musica antica, che fanno a gara a suonare l'uno più veloce dell'altro.

Também penso que esta versão de Michel Corboz é a melhor. Por anos, foi a versão utilizada para anunciar as transmissões da Eurovision.

Hum. Toutes les versions sont le reflet de leur époque, celle-ci comme les autres. Je ne vois pas en quoi jouer le baroque avec des instruments qui n'existaient pas, un latin qu'on n'utilisait pas, et un orchestre boursouflé correspondant au savoir lacunaire de la fin du XIXè siècle serait LE commandement que les dieux nous ont sommé de respecter jusqu'à la fin des temps, l'alpha et l'omega de la musicologie.

@@dragibusfuca2536 peut être parce que c'est plus beau et votre cling-cling baroqueux du bruit moche parfois. Tous les musiciens qui ont connu des révolutions musicales de leur vivant les ont adoptées (ex Bach)... tous sauf les folles du baroque qui regardent devant avec le pif dans le rétro et qui nous les brisent avec leur peudo pureté radicale. Grand bien leur fasse, nous on passe

@@guessouiam7738 C'est plus "beau" ? et c'est quoi, le "beau" ? Sachez que votre conception du "beau" date du XIXè, cher ami, ce n'est pas, ne vous en déplaise, une vision de notre époque... ce sont les baroqueux, comme vous dites, qui en retrouvant les pratiques de naguère, dépoussièrent l'écoute...quant à votre évocation de la "pureté", je ne sais pas où vous êtes allé chercher ça. vous êtes simplement allergique à la recherche musicologique, et préférez rester dans votre zone de confort. Soit. Bach n'a jamais été un "révolutionnaire". C'est un géant de la musique, mais Il était considéré par les "modernistes" de l'époque comme un musiciens "has been", face à des gens plus en accord avec l'air du temps, Teleman par exemple. Il fut peu connu de son vivant en-dehors de l'Allemagne, et son oeuvre était passée de mode et plus ou moins oubliée dès sa disparition. Vous êtes libre de vos préférences, mais évitez de faire prendre vos choix pour des vérités. Ce sont des opinions, et elles n'ont que la valeur d'une opinion.

Well very interesting outdated testimony...of the 70s : so slow and so pompous, using modern instruments and equal temperament, with an inadequate pronunciation which, we now know for sure, was never that of the french singers from the King's Court (In the baroque age, French Latin, that of the chapel of Versailles, is 'Gallican' Latin, and not the Latin of the Jesuits). And this homogeneous sound grieves me : because of the 'right' sounding instruments, they replaced a handful of multicoloured candles with all-white ones. And yet Jordi Savall and his colleagues were already there... But despite all, one can appreciate this kind of interpretation.
