Marcelo, I back your decision 100%. I trained at renzos but had the chance to go meet you and train twice at your gym in Manhattan. I know who you are and the values you promote are the ones that should be promoted in martial arts' teachings. Nowadays with the ufcs and Conor's influence, we have a youth with a distorted view of what being a true martial artist means. They are culture vultures, in it for the money and fame only. I commend you for not just denouncing Dillon's attitude but actually doing something about it and kicking him out of your academy. He isn't upholding the core values of a martial artist, much less one that was taught by a master practitioner such as yourself. Obrigado for keeping it real and maintaining these core values like humility, integrity, and correctness that should be taught in all martial art academies.

I keep rewatching this video. Even bookmarked it. Thank you, Marcelo.
you have a slight variation but this is known as the Judo Moral Code which is the set of ethics that was created by the founder of judo, Kano, for both on AND off the mat. we try to impart these beliefs to our youngest and expect these from our most advanced, we see these 8 words "Courtesy, Courage, Friendship, Honesty, Honour, Modesty, Respect, Self-Control" in dojos and it was on a huge banner during our provincial championships 2-3 weeks ago. I've seen national champions asked to leave a dojo because of their behavior so I am extremely impressed that Marcelo took this stance because I always felt that the BJJ world only deals with the sporting aspect, not the pedagogical or moral. Utmost respect for the man.

Excelente ensinamento. I didn´t knew about this guy until today, when i found him on a bjj playlist. After watching like 4 videos and interviews this seem like a very genuine guy. He obviously cares about his craft but also about the morals of it. I´m a painter and i really admire people who stay true to their art, who are critic with themselves and stay humble. Problem is that nowadays we live in a fuckedup world where people try to be what they are not and sometimes they try so hard is unbelievable. I never liked dillon danis i think he´s a joke, and is very sad, because in all his social media you can see on his face he didn´t even believe in whats he´s saying or who he says he is. It´s a shame that nowadays you have to create almost like a fake persona in order to accomplish anything "entertaiment" related. There have been always fake people trying so hard to be somebody else, the difference is that nowadays most of people don´t even recognize this and take everything for what it appears to be. That makes the things even worse, because people lose themselves in a situation where they can not succeed being themselves, and that´s very sad. Hats off to this man for staying true to himself. You can tell he´s a very happy man, doing what he loves and not faking anything.... that sounds easy but i think it´s the most difficult thing to accomplish in life, i hope to achieve that someday. True inspiration

Listening to Marcelo explain his decision certain adjectives come to mind: Diplomatic, sincere, taking the high road. With the explosion in popularity of Jiu-Jitsu around the world, most of us are drawn to this amazing art for the life-changing affect it has all facets of our lives. Whether for self-defense, fitness, competition or curiosity being the impetus for us first looking into Jiu-Jitsu, we stay and train for so many other reasons. It will also attract a few people that see it as a way to dominate and impose their will upon others, since it IS the MOST effective Martial Art on Earth. Guys with SDS-Small Dick Syndrome, that act the fool hoping others will notice them because they are so shallow and have NO depth to their character. I fear danis is one of these,
