+Keenan Cornelius at the beginning, MG seems to just walk right through your DLR and Mantis attempts. Had that happened with that ease before? I understand that you guys weren't going at it 100% and you readily swap to new tactics instead of stalling, which I like, but it looked like you put up the DLR, he stripped it and walked around, and you made the judgement call, "yeah, that's not a game I should play with him" Just curious. Love the video, love watching you both work.

crazy how far ahead of the game Marcelo Garcia was, to compete with todays most innovative bjj black belt practitioners

How the hell is that? You make it sound like hes from the 1800s

@@MichaelSmith-ny9qh Dude, 5-10 years in competitive sports is crazy. Look at Askren vs. Burroughs.
@Momsspaghetti7775 жыл бұрын
First name Surname that’s definitely just not the case. Burroughs was always steps ahead. Askren doesn’t have a single world championships in wrestling under his belt. Burroughs has like 10 Plus wrestling is a way larger sport internationally than bjj. The difference between an entry level world level competitor and one at the highest level would be like Marcelo Garcia vs regular blackbelt. Also take into consideration that Askren is yeaaaars outside of the wrestling circle. Marcelo Garcia is still within the bjj circle. So no. That’s a terrible analogy
@33moneyball5 жыл бұрын
Mom’s Spaghetti look at their respective folk style records...and Marcelo has been competitively out of the loop for a decade. He trains but zero top tier tournaments or matches. It’s an imperfect analogy but it’s not a terrible one
@Momsspaghetti7775 жыл бұрын
33moneyball Jordan Burroughs has the same accomplishments in folkstyle and couldn’t even wrestle an entire year IMMEDIATELY after Burroughs went his last year undefeated in a weight he’s never wrestled at despite the lay off. Even in college Burroughs is slightly better, but in freestyle specifically Burroughs is a different league. Askren was at the entry level of international competition, like an Artem Lobov type of the Olympics Burroughs was THE guy to beat. They’re nothing alike

Hello Professor Keenan, At 8:40 into this video you mentioned that you like to recover getting the opponent's back from escaping onto the mat by hooking their far armpit to bring their weight back up onto you for the control. Is there a specific reason for this? Do you prefer the armpit instead of hooking the head because the shoulder is the first thing to reach the mat? Or there is less defensive options going after the armpit instead of the head? Thank you in advance.
