The Marsch aus Petersburg march performed spectacularly at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. This is a Prussian, Finnish and Russian march dedicated by Tsar Nikolai I of Russia to King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia, his brother-in-law. Composed by Erik Eriksson.

From wikipedia .uk : "Today, there are approximately 6-7 million ethnic Finns and their descendants worldwide, with majority of them living in their native Finland and the surrounding countries, namely Sweden, Russia and Norway. An overseas Finnish diaspora has long been established in the countries of the Americas and Oceania, with the population of primarily immigrant background, namely Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States. "---"Swedes (Swedish: svenskar) are a North Germanic ethnic group native to Sweden. They mostly inhabit Sweden and the other Nordic countries, in particular Finland, with a substantial diaspora in other countries, especially the United States. Swedes are an officially recognized minority in Finland and Estonia."

@@Situnadei ---"Swedes (Swedish: svenskar) are a North Germanic ethnic group native to Sweden. They mostly inhabit Sweden and the other Nordic countries, in particular Finland, with a substantial diaspora in other countries, especially the United States. Swedes are an officially recognized minority in Finland and Estonia." Well - what Wikipedia writes is not entirely correct. The so called "Finnish Swedes" are a mixed bunch. Also in Finland the "Swedes" are not an officially recognised minority - the Swedish speakers are. Quite a different thing. Some - e.g. the (nowadays, but not the original) inhabitants of Aland Islands - are genetically quite "Swedish" and could be described as Swedes living in Finland. Many however are genetically totally Finnish, who just speak Swedish. Why is that? For abt 1000 years there was some immigration to Finland (as well as immigration from Finland to Sweden - on top of the original Finnic population in Sweden). The immigrants from Sweden settled roughly to the areas of Swedish speaking majority of today. On the other hand for centuries - until abt mid-1800's - Swedish was the only official language of governance, education, commerce etc. If one wanted to advance in the society, one needed to speak Swedish. So for hundreds of years totally Finnish people changed their language and names. Then from mid-1800's onwards the tide turned. Now the Finnish nationalism became fashionable. "Swedes we are not, Russians we do not wish to become, so let us be Finns." Now the Swedish speakers - regardless of their background - started to learn and speak Finnish - and changed their names for the Finnish ones. Even within same family some members might have had different languages and names. Today it is (still) beneficial to be a Swedish speaker in Finland. It is e.g. easier to get to the university (minority quotas) and get grants. Nowadays it also guarantees less multicultural schools. That's why most officially bilingual families (where both parents speak perfect Finnish) register their Finnish speaking kids as "Swedish speakers". Although the Swedish speakers on average are genetically slightly more Swedish than the rest of the Finns, individually it is impossible to tell one's genetical background by name and language alone. If you ask the Swedish speaking Finns themselves, the vast majority of them will say that they are Finns, not Swedes.

I enjoy military music and marching and I've been watching quite a few videos of the Honorary Battalion. They sound great and their drill looks bloody good. However, and without trying to be disrespectful to the Germans, I think the Brits still set the standard. I thought the band was a bit casual as they marched past but I assume that this is at the end of the parade and they had probably relaxed. How long do the members serve in the Battalion and do they go back to their original units after their time with the unit?
@BTBconcept
@BTBconcept 4 жыл бұрын
Whether the soldiers in the guard battalion ever change units depends on the time of their duty. Many of them stay with the guard battalion. The commanders with the rank of lieutenant colonel are an exception. These change after 2 to 3 years.

At that time, the islander rescues the crew.There were many Germans, but all were successfully rescued.And the Japanese treated all Germans wounds. And the Japanese made the Germans eat delicious food.They gave Germans a place to sleep.The Japanese entertained the Germans with songs and dances. The islanders repaired the German ship.The days were 34 days.And the islanders put a lot of food and water on the ship and sent the Germans to Germany safely.There are still monuments sent from Germany in Okinawa.Japan will always help Germans from now on. After the war, the German city was destroyed and many Germans were killed. We Japanese are very sad about that. I pray to God that Germany will never be unhappy again. There is a tower in my town praying for the Germans soul to be saved.It is a story in the Bando camp.About 100 years ago, there were many German prisoners of war in Japan.Japan did not treat German POWs awfully. The Japanese treated German POWs as friends. Japan respected German POW freedom.Japan did not force German POWs to work. Germans were respected in Japan. They spread German culture and history, beer and sausages, Bam Kuuchen etc to Japan. The German bridge created by German prisoners of war is still well preserved in Japan.Japan did not want a war with Germany. At that time, Britain and Japan were allies. There was a request from the United Kingdom, and it became a battle with Germany. Japan allowed German POWs to do sports and cultural activities.Exchanges between villagers and Germans were also popular. It is more correct to say that the camp where the Germans were located is a German village than a camp. When the Germans returned home, Japanese and Germans grieved for goodbye.

Lucas Wilson I am German as well and as such I see no relevant party willing to make the German army the strongest of the world. No one wants to spend that money. And for what purpose should we need that strenght? It would be sufficient to improve the current deplorable status and to comply with the 2% engagement.

@@Ruhtinas84 And to be precise, Finland was never "part of Russia". The Autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland was part of the "Russian" Empire, which was quite a different thing. Finland had own government, laws etc. - and even a customs border with Russia. The Emperor was "The Czar of Russia, The King of Poland and The Grand Duke of Finland" - among other titles.

because you have a mistake in thinking. for you there is only world war 2. before that only the roman empire. and nothing in between. you still have to learn something in history. It's just a difference whether you only know Germany from 33 to 45.
