I think dega nice but their arrangements take away from the fact that their actually really balanced, but yeah SU took this easily, the sound is just more complete🤔hard to explain but that’s my best explanation at the moment

I’m gonna go ahead and break this down. Talladega did a WONDERFUL job and they have improved a lot from their previous years. But their arrangements sometimes kill them. Dega may be louder than su, but su’s arrangements are just structured so much better. That I ain’t mad atcha shut dega down. In terms of sections, both tuba sections were nice but dega tubas got that RANGE. Su trumpets stomped on them boys easily, eupho wise dega euphos on special steroids lol. Su trombones are currently on another level. Mello wise, dega mellos was yamming the whole night but su mellos ain’t no hoes either. Sorry, but in my honest opinion, southern took the W but it was close.

You seriously think Degas Eupho section can see these boys? Man hell no. Go back and listen again sir. Both tpet sections full of horn holders if you ask me. The only section even in the Jukes category is the sousas.

Honestly it wouldn’t be a battle. Talladega is just numbers and instruments. The maturity, musicianship, and high quality arrangements of SU is not to be compared with. TC has power because of numbers but the arrangements are high school written. No thought and time is put into the arrangements....just verse and hook.

Dega has the power but they need to LEARN HOW TO CONTROL WHEN PLAYING OUT. Also, polish the arrangements. Dega sounds better than last year and 2017. Props to both band. SU, Thee Sonic Boom will see y’all at Crankfest and Boombox. Legendary shit this season.

Juke still runnin it, but yes I agree...Dega is improving. I'm able to at least let this play while I'm at work with headphones and not skipping ahead this time. :) I do cringe a few times tho listening to Dega. Someday they'll get there.....maybe. :D

@@creolenolamix1164 I'm looking in on these two bands from Oklahoma. In highscool and college JSU was my go to but overtime that has changed. JSU just can't beat SU musically. However, I feel that JSU has some darker tones to their music. SU overall is definitely #1

All these bands nowadays have adopted SU’s style of playing. SU was ridiculed for years for “playing loud” and now that everyone has copied this style of playing, SU is overrated? You can tell a lot of y’all haven’t been following band long enough to know that SU’s identity is in a lot of these programs. You give some of these schools SU arrangements, and them kids couldn’t and wouldn’t be able to play them. If SU was to go to quantity over quality like some of these schools and have subpar arrangements, and just blew with no dynamics or articulation and sense of balance, then what would be said? SU for the win, its two different leagues!🤷🏾♂️

Bands been cranking since the 80s. When did SU invent this style? Dega director is from SU, so they are a copy of SU. Even though bands play loud, they don't arrange they songs like SU, so there is a difference.

Dega's arrangements were high school ah. SU is just a better all around band. Only thing Dega had better than SU were tubas. Mellos bout a tie. Dega's Mellos and Btones sounded loud because they're arrangements were booty af. If they had a better arranger they'd did better against SU but Dega TBone section needs more power. But a better arranger would do them the ultimate justice. Trumpets aight. They need to be cleaner as a section. Everybody that can scream don't need to scream. They need more folks that's just cranking pushing the the part right above above the staff rather than scream.

Tubas can't win u a battle just like trumpet sections if we tell bands turn up they trumpet sections like SU it wouldn't be fare SU have the total package including Tubas that's the problem with some bands it's always one section trying to stand out and seems to over power the whole band which makes a band be unbalance at time one thing I noticed to SU band always have difficult parts to play unlike other bands they don't so it's easy to straight blow loud with not to many dynamic intonation that's what separate SU from other bands not to mention the quality n sound from SU SU is the total package

Dalion Keyng Su tuba section grew some balls. You have to remember, them boys have been on fiberglass tubas for over half a century... but they are not quite on jsu tubas level yet, i have to agree with that.
