You kinda just pointed it out. Many people dislike him because he is being paid as a starter and acts as if he is one. You describe what his role should be, a fantastic squad player. But as he’s stated, he thinks he should be a starter. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be a starter for Madrid, almost any player would want that. The problem is we have Rodrygo in that position who is better (who’s also playing out of position). Asensio is more impactful off the bench, but if you look at his body language the last 2 seasons, he regularly looks annoyed being a substitute (which I get why). His role should be clear and defined, a good squad player with occasional starts given the match up.

@@patitoduck123 True that, he's definitely had his moments where he wants a more prominent role getting frustrated on the bench, although I feel like those things come more from the fans. Coz he gets frustrated at times being benched but he's yet to ever openly come out himself and express displeasure, neither has Ceballos neither has Nacho and the other role players, I feel like that's why the club happily renew him. Same with Nacho and Lucas Vazquez. But admittedly Asensio did try to get a pay rise but I think he's now eventually accepted the clubs counter offer. So win win for all around. I think the day that his demands become too much for the club the club will let him go and vice versa the day he feels that he wants a new challenge I think he would then force a transfer or not renew. But until then I'm okay with the club keeping these players around for up until the club deems them not providing value 👊🏿
