Wait why does your thesis only discuss the difference between Gandhi and the audience and then your body paragraphs talk about unifying the audience?

Good question. The distinction between Gandhi and his audience is meant to unify them. As I revise my essay, this something that I could make more clear. I also can use the essay to develop that nuance of my argument. Remember that as you write, you should refer back to the prompt and your own thesis to make sure you are clearly answering the question and relating your evidence back to your argument. Should I mention ethos, pathos or logos within my other body paragraphs, or should they have their own paragraphs? Also, would these be included anywhere in my thesis?

Try to avoid structuring your essay around ethos, pathos, and logos. You can discuss the passage chronologically or talk about other choices the author made.

Is there a different AP test for each grade of student or can a senior in high school sit the same AP English as a freshman? Curious.

Students can take AP Exams any year they want, though most follow the sequence of courses offered by their school.

Does just saying "the author uses a shift in tone which....." or "the author establishes contrasts which...." or "the author repeats ______ which reinforces a broader point" count as rhetorical devices the author uses to prove their point or do we actually have to name rhetorical devices such as "the author uses anaphoras", "the author uses parallelism", "the author uses rhetorical questions"?

The exam asks you to talk about choices, not just devices. You can talk about whatever you like

Should the essay be written in past or present tense?

Either way works fine. Most English teachers prefer a present tense, but that’s just one option.

Marco Learning thank you! It always felt more natural writing in present tense, but I was told by my teacher that might negatively affect me on the ap exam so I appreciate the advice!
