That's because Marco is mostly in love with himself. This is why his face dominates; he wants you to love him too.

You should include your list and links to those games in your description. It would make it easier for us watching to A: remember your list and B: quickly find those games online.

Awesome video, Marco! I am now in my late twenties, but was introduced to wargaming through ASL. Since, I have found and followed your videos, and you have inspired a couple of good purchases for me, being primarily a solitaire gamer. It's a difficult scene to penetrate for new people, and I still have issues with many games, so this would be a great video to share for anyone curious but intimidated by the wargaming scene.

Totally agree with Fading Glory being #1. Great for a beginner and something that more experienced gamers will also love.

Outstanding review. I love that you addressed the "complexity" issue in the Command and Colors (Memoir 44 is my by-far favorite). Also, your analysis of Zulus on the Ramparts was great. Those are two great games. Love your reviews.

I'm playing Waterloo 20 following your advice and am enjoying it a great deal. Short and sweet. Not too complicated. Good mix of strategy and luck. I feel like it was a great choice for my first hex-and-counter game. Thanks!

Hold the Line or Napoleon's War, simple but you can add complexity with optional rules

Thank you for this video, Marco! I'm happy to see AVD on the list as I've recently acquired it and was a little daunted by the size of the map in comparison to the little ziplock games I'm used to playing. Go, Fading Glory! :)

Something like Age of Sigmar, Shadespire or even 40k kill team if you can handle building and painting miniatures they are easy to pick up, quick to play and have a small rule set. Napoleonic 20 board games (including faded glory) are extremely easy to pick up and they have a surprising depth which has even attracted serious war gamers to play them. Command & Colours games are also great games to start with.

Great list, Marco. Totally agree about Fading Glory. The Napoleonic 20 System has amazing replay value for such small games. I would have picked A Victory Lost over A Victory Denied - it was the original in that system and a tad easier than AVD. Also, there is a computer version of Battle for Moscow in Public Domain - no AI, of course, but the mod knows the rules. You can find that at war-game-programming. com

My list would be... 10) Squad Leader (due to it's programmed instructions) 9) Hammer of the Scots 8) Band of Brothers 7) Ogre / GEV 6) Fading Glory 5) Washington's War 4) Hannibal 3) Panzer (or MBT) - Basic rules. Add advanced rules to taste. 2) Infidel, or anything from the Men of Iron series 1) A Victory Lost I'd recommend something off this list based on preference of the subject matter. For example, if Napoleonic warfare bores you, don't get Fading Gloring. Get it later. It's important that the first game is a subject matter and unit level that interests you. Personally tactical level games are what drew me in. I cut my teeth on War at Sea, then Squad Leader.

These the most popular seem to be: WH40K, Malifaux, Flames of War, Infinity, Warmachine/Hordes, X-Wing. Kings of War is coming up as a sort of replacement for Warhammer Fantasy Battle 7th Edition/Age of Sigmar.

Marco... I can appreciate a beginners llist, but in a sense... you missed a few really basic game... how about AH's "Tactics II", "Kriegspeil"... early AH games like "Afrika Korps", "D-Day", or "Stalingrad" are pretty easy to get the effect of beginning the warfare experience. All these games can be purchased easily on EBAY... keep up the good work
