Here's my review of the Ring Doorbell after 3 months of usage. The reason I'm doing it now is because the battery lasted exactly 3 months. I hope you guys like the video.

Thank you for your review. I agree with everything you mentioned in your video. The battery life if you are using the wi-fi is only 3 months. If I would've known this, I would've hardwired from the get-go. Make sure not to tighten the security screws to tight. We were going to recharge the batteries, and couldn't unscrew them. I had to call Ring support. They must get a lot of complaints, because they agreed to send us a new doorbell in 3 days and told us to hammer it off the wall. My son and I were shocked. The representative told us to wrap a towel around a hammer and pound it off. Seriously? It was pretty easy to pop it right off the wall. The same thing has happened with my mother's Ring. We cannot unscrew the security screws. The Rep told us when you install it, you shouldn't tighten them to much. That should be mentioned in the installation instructions. They are impossible to unscrew. They are very small and seem stripped. Do we love our Ring? Absolutely! I would buy this bell again in a heartbeat. I love sitting at my desk downtown and knowing someone is at my front door. I can talk to them if need be. Buy this bell you won't be sorry. But I'd hardwire if possible.

I got my $35 Chinese import at my front door area that is mounted on the wall. I chipped out 1/2" groove in the concrete behind the usb connector so my charging cable is fixed & it fits flush. I see the Ring doorbell has the same location for usb connection. I am switching to Ring so I can view & connect to my Ring Security network. I see most 1st generation Ring on Ebay for $60 - $90. That will be perfect for my situation as ring security is only $20 per month. We had ADT at $65 per month.

Mine works perfectly and is connected to solar panel. Motion detection happens instantly most of the time and delayed but 5 seconds sometime. Had trouble at first but I factory reset as it wasn't connecting saying password or Internet problem. I fixed by factory resetting it. But working perfectly since then . Before this live view only worked 40% of the time. Now it's 97% of the time. Had for almost a year and I really think it's amazing.

I had to get the wedge kit (free) from Ring because the porch is four steps up and the video was catching every car that drove by, wearing that battery down quickly. Now the camera points down at the sidewalk but it's no longer elegant looking since it uses all three plastic white wedges. Also, the doorbell takes so long to kick in that I only ever see the back of the post or delivery people, who have to walk about 20' up the sidewalk and go up the steps before the motion detector registers it. One other thing: I've asked Ring to add a feature so we can name the videos we want to keep. Right now they all have the same name (either Answered Motion, Accepted Ring, or Motion). It should be a simple fix. Good resolution on the video though, and great support from the company. It's nice to be alerted when packages are dropped off, and I love being able to talk to the people who ring the doorbell. Before the Ring, if I was working in the back yard I would miss the people who dropped by unless they came around back. Overall, after three months, I'd rate the Ring three-four stars.

Thanks for the video mate. Bought one same colour as yours. I’m fitting it tomorrow, and I’m also planning on running it using it’s battery. So this video has helped massively in terms of getting an idea how long the battery might last.

Hey, I'm an electrician and after watching this I'm thinking you may get shorter life or screwy battery levels because of outside temperature change. I know it sounds weird but, temp change can affect batteries and battery life. Kinda like your car battery. When does it usually die? When it goes into summer or (and more often) into winter! Don't know where you live but... Just a thought...

this is 100% true.. i work with electronics, alarms/cctv/access control and the cold weather will definitely affect the battery usage, when any electrical components/wires get cold they build up resistance which causes the electrical energy to take longer to get through and draw more amps from the battery, which makes the battery or power source to work harder..

Hi, I have an answer for you. I have two ring doorbells one in the front and one in the back for 2 years. The one in the back gets approximately I would say three months, but the one in the front only lasted about a month and a half. It doesn't matter so much how many alerts you get ,what matters is how much motion activity there is. I live in a apartment complex and my front door faces the pool and the walkway is about 13 ft away. Even though I have the motion sensor set for approximately 5 ft, it's still responding although not alerting. Which makes sense doesn't go dead. So that motion activity is causing my battery to drain rapidly because it's somewhat of a high traffic area. I ended up getting a wired adapter and that solved my problem of never having to worry about the battery. They're cheap and you can get them on eBay. I'm figuring it how to hardwire my back door so I can forget about battery charging because it's you know it's somewhat of a nuisance. Hope this help answer why the battery drains even though the doorbell may not be used that much.

love my ring doorbell but you need a good WiFi router (mine is a Asus rt-ac3200) placed in the center of the home (usually in the living room) and as high as possible (mine is on the China cabinet) otherwise your audio/video will be choppy at night when interference travels further due to it bouncing off the ionosphere. my notifications come instantly, if you have bad WiFi you will get delayed motion alerts. few tips that helped me get good video/audio. - Turning on Adaptive QoS in the router settings and setting my ring doorbell and chimes as first priority. - Switching my 2.4ghz channel to auto if you are in a WiFi congested area like me. - Port forward all the ports listed on the ring website. - Most important as stated above is a good router. (never use the WiFi router built into the modem) and good placement.

You also need to remember it still recording when it detects movement.. Plus The delay is not a bad thing at all. as why have a doorbell at all if your going to get a notification that someone is there as you would end up with 2 notification one from movement and then the button press.. so really the delay is help full so your not getting 2 notification and as i said before its recording as soon as there is movement... Hope this help other who are thinking of getting ring

Maybe it only lasted 3 months because the battery did not come fully charged. Just a thought. Mine delivered with 50% battery life. I wired it to the existing wiring and I use the ring chime in my bar where I cannot regularly hear the doorbell. The alert time has to do more with the speed of your network and the device you are operating on. I have mine linked to a 19 inch TV in my living room that is wall mounted so I can turn off my phone notifications and monitor it this way when I'm at home without looking at my phone. Good review LIKED.

I get a week from my battery. Lots of activity from neighbors next door. I changed settings to minimize battery depletion and it's been bitterly cold. We'll see what spring brings... I also have a 'Stick-Up' cam screwed to a tree, powered by a solar panel, it has performed flawlessly throughout the winter months. Wondering how well the solar panel will work when the trees are fully leaved (less exposure to sun).

The motion detection takes a while because its using battery power. If it was wired to your existing doorbell, it should be close to instant. Depending on what goes on, 15 secs is to long, but for some it may be enough.

9/10 it's the customer's network if you cannot replicate the delay issue with other greater 80%+ customer networks. The problem is so many people run their "tests" and swear up and down their home network is perfect because in their perspective, it does look like there is nothing wrong with their network if other technologies on their network do not appear to fail, so logically you would think it is the new gadget and not the ongoing "functioning" home network........ deal with this in VoIP all the time when people complain about dropped calls or garbled audio and refuse to believe it's their super fast internet connection.

Great question, Akommers! The motion-activated camera will capture a video of this and start recording as soon as motion is detected. Also, we hope the visibility of a Ring device acts as a deterrent against crime in addition to providing our Neighbors with the security of knowing that events will be recorded and can be shared with Law Enforcement & other neighbors should criminal activities occur.

lol @ 0:58 "ring promised you at least six months to 12 months of battery life." Their website says it will last between 6-12 months with "normal use" or "approximately 1,000 notification events." It further says "the battery may deplete faster if your Ring is capturing a large number of motion events every day." So, you might have a lot of stuff going on in front of your device or you may have to make your notification zones smaller.

Get a home phone charger if you don't have old school doorbell wiring and drill holes through your walls and the Ring bracket and plugging as if you're charging it. You can also get a construction extension cord and fish it through your wall from the basement or attic because who wants some random wire hanging out of there drywall.

Maybe the battery is not staying charged long because you are not using the charger that came with it. I know with some cell phones if you use a charger that did not come with the cell phone the battery either does not charge or it charges very slowly and dies quick. Try using the charger that came with it and do the 10 hours of charging and then make another video and attach it on this video in the comments section to let us know if that makes the battery last longer. I want to get one of these actually a couple of these but I want to make sure I don't waste my money.

I just bought my Ring DB yesterday and installed it. When I get a motion alert, I see nothing! There is nobody there, you are right about the delay effect, if I knew this I probably would not have bought it. Another thing I had a message saying that I had 28 days left to pay for a subscription. Hum I never saw on the package or was told by the hardware store that I had to subscribe to view my videos! If I knew that I would not have bought it! Right now I am not very happy about this Ring doorbell! Especially if I cannot see anything or anyone using the motion alerts, also someone rang the door bell and it did not detect anyone either, so should I return it for a refund only having it one day? Is there anything better for the same price or cheaper, please let me know. I am in Australia by the way.

What's to stop a prospective thief from grabbing this right off your wall and walking away?
@Marcthegeek
@Marcthegeek 8 жыл бұрын
+BigDk DPS he would have to be a superhuman to just grab and Rio off walk. This also uses special tool to secure it to wall. And if this does happen, person will be caught on video and I would get a new Ring cause of it's stolen it's covered in the warranty.

I might be dumb, but what does it take to a burglar to just kick the shit out of that camera and destroy it in just a second? I thought that device was protected in a strong case or into the wall or something. But it's easy to remove with a simple kick or probably even a punch. And you will loose a pretty expensive hardware for no reason. I don't see this being very useful against any real threat to your house.

Hector Cruz: If you do not answer the "ring," it not set up with outgoing message option, but it will record video and voice capture from the person at the door.

Hi Rosetta! Battery life is contingent on usage so the volume of alerts you receive per day will affect it. Roughly, how many alerts are you receiving per day?

Try checking your upload speed, thedrloboski stevens. You can check by visiting www.bandwidthplace.com on your cell phone, and running a speed test right next to where your Ring Doorbell will be installed. Our Ring Video Doorbell requires a minimum of 1mbps and the Ring Pro requires 2mbps :)

@@Marcthegeek Thank you. Wow I am shocked, that is not even close to what they claim. I was thinking of getting this because the first version is pretty cheap now, but I might rethink it now. I definitely was looking at running off the battery only.
