XC90 T8 is not a V8. It is a plug-in hybrid. Volvo uses a 4-cylinder 320-hp turbocharged petrol engine in tandem with an electric motor to give you a total output of 407 hp, 0-100 km/h time of around 5 and a half seconds, and claimed average fuel consumption of just above 2 litres.
Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid SUV is a 7-seater, which can take you and your family on vacation, it will do some light off-roading without you worrying about the undercarriage, from the lights it can leave most other cars behind. And all this using between 7 and 8 litres per 100 km. And thanks to the Pilot Assist feature it can drive in semi-autonomous mode.

I've had the T8 model for about 4 months, and driven ~2,500 miles. We don't use the car to commute, but it's our only car. I downloaded my trip data to share my experience. About 80% of our journeys are done fully on Electric power. It's quick enough off the line for normal traffic, and it's smooth as silk. Yes, I'd like more range, 30 miles would be perfect in my opinion, but I'm surprised how many trips we've managed to complete on electric. Then this weekend we jumped in the car, went on a 1,000 mile road trip - although it would be nice to top up the batteries, you don't need too - that's the beauty of plug-in hybrids. Over the 2,500 miles we have driven (before the road trip) we've averaged 40 MPG. That's not going to save the planet, or justify the $ premium, but it's the best MPG you'll find for a 7 seater premium SUV. So, why get the T8 over the T6? It's certainly not a financial justification, but it feels great to run some errands without using any gas, and the car feels so smooth in pure mode. Also - when you need it, there aren't many cars that can beat you off the line.

If you compare it with a german audi q7 you cannot expect the same quality in plastics. The price of a q7 etron fully equiped like this one is at least 40k to 50 000 euro more. The difference has to be somewhere. Did like the review tho. Nice car

A great looking car, IMO. I like all the electronic assistants and features, but very skeptical about hybrid. Some engineers say it is a dead end branch in a cars future. Also it would be fair to compare diesel V6 Volvo with an Audi. I also love my V6 TDI sound, so this Prius genes are not the good thing in such a nice car.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 8 жыл бұрын
Volvo doesn't make 6 cylinder engines any longer. It's all 4 cylinder, 2 litre diesel/petrol. Is hybrid dead? I don't know. I would rather expert PHEVs to be gradually replaced by EVs with range extenders, which is a different form of hybrid.

If you plug a hybrid in everytime you come home after a short trip and the battery is not empty do you kill the battery then? And can you leave it plugged in all the time or do you need to remove the cable when fully charged? Its because I don't need a car everyday, so will it break down after some time if I leave it in the socket for some time?
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 8 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't affect batter life. You can also set times, when you want the car to charge, so you can leave it plugged in at night, but charging will start for example early in the morning. You can also use an app to set pre-heating/cooling, while the car is plugged in, so it doesn't use as much battery for climate control after you start driving.

Adaptive speed control? My RAV4 has road sign recognition, but it cannot decipher "20mph when red lights flash" and how would you like 113mph down a motorway when it read "max speed 113kph" off the back of a lorry. Self driving cars? Not in my life time.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 8 жыл бұрын
I think the camera reads only signs on the side of the road, and they have to be certain size, so unless someone stands by the road holding up a sign, you should be fine :)

To me (after watching many videos with that topic) autonomous driving is very dangerous! Why? Because: 1.) Many motor jounalists and car company managers exaggerate a bit the description what the systems are able to, because it sounds negative when they would say "in this... and this... and this... situation the system is really incompetent and in all this situations it is very important, that you don't use it then". This details are written in some detailed descriptions and the dealer will say it at one point somewhen, but all the others that commend the new cars and systems talk more generally about it "oh, it worked mostly very well ... and in the future we have completely autonomously driving cars" - and these words sink in the minds of many drivers and some will not recognise early enough when the limits of the today's systems will occur. 2.) If I can talk about the more capable systems that already steer autonomously: the systems have one very big mistake: Yes, they recognise if they do not understand the situation and give an alarm beep and you have to drive yourself then and yes, if the road marking and so on is good, it recognise everything well and drives well. But what they absolutely aren't capable of is (what we human beings can so much better) to perceive A LOOMING/UNCLEARLY COMMING problem and react before it's really severe. Human beings have so many unconscious experiences for unexpected situations that we often prepare for difficult situations, breaking or steering a bit... BUT THE PROGRAMMER OF THESE SYSTEMS DIDN'T DO SOMETHING REALLY IMPORTANT: let the car react to things in a very big distance, that means: if the system detects very little problems that occurs in a distance and that COULD become a problem THAT THEN ALREADY the system would react with slightly reducing speed and warning already the driver (but this would cause too many warnings and wouldn't be attracitve to sell). So the autonomous pilots know only yes or no, they just "say" drive yourself, "I" don't understand the street WHEN THE PROBLEM IS ALREADY VERY CLOSE, there is no early advanced / light warning or light reducing of the speed... Have seen a test drive with a tesla where the car wasn't even able to recognise the direction of the street when sometimes the road marking on the right side ended but there was then instead of the road marking a very good visible and long crash barrier that lined the street, but the Tesla car lost the trace. So the systems are far, far away from autonomous driving where you could relax... but the drivers already relax and will not be able to switch back with their mind and make good decisions when there is a sudden bigger problem.
@tfwang5649
@tfwang5649 6 жыл бұрын
Sonnenschein Sommer , it is not a fully autonomous car. You need to still pay attention on the road. However, it help you to drive in the centre of the road and leave your feet in a nature position in the most of time driving in freeways. I have used it for more than 30K KM and it works just fine. I never consider it as a level 4 autonomous car. It is called PA, pilot assist.

Nowhere to store the boot cover, last row seatbelts attachments you mentioned in the video? seems really last minute solutions to me. pay 60-80.000 eur for a car that has squeaky cheap plastics in the centre console? no thanks :D
