This is the *last song* on the *Daydream* album, and that's a reason for the album to end that way. The entire album is about love, fantasy, having fun, she was *daydreaming* . "Looking In" is the *wake up* part, where all the magic world she was dreaming about suddenly disapears, and she faces reality: The world and her life in 1995 were not exactly as she dreamed it would be. Even though the sucess was huge, her private life was a daily struggle. No *happy ending* on her daydream

As a person, we often use masks either because we are afraid that the world might not accept us or as our defense mechanism. Same goes to Mariah she uses her masks as a defense mechanism and to prove that she's worthy. It is ok to wear your mask as long as you're aware of it and knows when to take it off. That's why her attitude towards journalists who tries to make fun of her, mock her, and feel that she's nothing is different whenever she's with her kids, or with people she talks to and who can act professionally.

She suffered a horrible injury to her shoulder, hand and ribs the night before this event, but rallied to perform this charity concert with the Philharmonic. She sang this song with a fractured rib, a dislocated shoulder and injured fingers in her right hand (think about that!) The doctors told her that the injury was like getting hit by a truck, and that it was more serious than she ever allowed the public to know at the time. The lyric she got choked up on was: "She wades in insecurity, and hides herself inside of me." An injury like that makes you feel really vulnerable, but it doesn't hit you until a few days later because you're still in shock and denial. She had a delayed reaction. This concert is the stuff of legends. It's why we love her so, so much.

Can we give a hand, please, to the orchestra for working so hard to keep in step with her? She was so emotional while singing that song that her pacing was all over the place, and the conductor had to make a ton of lickety split adjustments throughout the performance. Only real professional musicians can do that, and these ones deserve a lot of recognition

The director wasn’t really doing much more than what he’s supposed to. Any musician should be able to fallow a singer and I think she was actually the one having trouble to keep on time and making big effort not getting much help from the director, he wasn’t even looking at her, even one of the musicians gave a look at her when she stoped singing like thinking “wtf am I playing the right part?” BUT the director simply kept on going. Not very useful.

She wrote this song during the fantasy era while she was suffering under that evil tommy mottola. She could not tell anyone how she was suffering under that man who took advantage her as he controlled her and portrayed her as perfect girl who lives in a golden world. Mariah couldn't be herself and I was shocked they let her release the song as well. God bless Mariah I love you

it’s as though to sing the song, she has to return to the emotional state when she wrote it and return to hell before she sings the final note and the sadness lets her go. it reminds me of some of her 1997 tv show performances where the sadness washes over her until the song is over, and she can smile again.

I'm such a huge Lamb, honestly I see every single video out there about Mariah vocals, compilations, her recent performances on SSFT, Vegas, Beacon 2016 but everytime I stumbled across this particular live performance I kinda always knew it was gonna be lifechanging and I kinda unconsciously "saved" it for a very special occasion. I have never listened to this song "Looking In" before ON PURPOSE. Call it intuition or whatever you want. Today is my birthday and its the first time I hear this song and watch this live performance: I cried for hours while watching this. Not only because I relate to the lyrics and it hits right in my soul, but because it somehow shows me that Mariah is not a dumb diva, she actually KNOWS everything thats happened to her. That woman is a genius. She turned from a teenager to a big star, her life has turned upside down and she still is BRILLIANT. Also, I would like to point out something about this song/performance in that particular time: I believe, as the intelligent woman she is, she knows about her vocal condition. Yes, she still sounds amazing, but she KNOWS her voice/body strenght is not what it once was in her 20's, and its very clear to me that she gets very hurt about people saying she should retire, that she lost her voice and things like that when she says "I'm doing the best with what I have, seriously". Earlier somewhere in 2015 or even 2016 I can't remember, she sang Hero live and started the performance with "I'm gonna do my best, hope you like it" and I think it's so touching... Specially at 2013, she seemed to be insecure about her voice. Can you blame her? She was trying her best with what she had left and people still bashed her a lot those last years. Almost zero support (except from her loyal fans). It just shows me how mean people can be nowadays: this woman is a musical genius, she has given (and still gives) HER ALL to us and still people laugh at her and mock her. HAVE SOME RESPECT for that amazing and brilliant human being that Mariah Carey is.

Wow, I can't even imagine how emotional it must be for Mariah to sing the song looking back to when she wrote it and this time performing it live, I think maybe the 1st ever?. I actually cried but I'm so happy for her and where she is now, so successful, glamorous, and in health, happy with her family. To me, she is the greatest songwriter and singer of all time.

It was so brave for her to do this song in front of so many people. I make music myself, and I don't care too much about releasing deeply personal things, because you're singing to the wall essentially, no eye contact, nobody (or just one person) watching, but having to sing lyrics similar to words you would tell to a Councillor in front of thousands? I know I wouldn't do that.
