What a lovely warm and generous woman Mitzi Gaynor is. Wouldn't it have been wonderful if Marilyn Monroe had lived and we had got to see her as a wise, witty and fascinating older lady like Mitzi - I think women get so much more interesting as they age. With maturity comes wisdom, confidence and a certain "I don't give a fuck what you think of me" air - I would have loved to have seen the older Marilyn, she could have been a fantastic kick ass mentor for women. But alas it was not to be.

What is so incredible to me is that although she was used somehow MM rose above. The choices, sacrifices and humiliation she suffered for her fans and career were so incredibly smart to bear in hindsight. She knew the big picture and let the rest fall away. So all that remains is the best. Its as if she knew she would be gone or perhaps just that she wanted to leave a legacy no matter when she died. Really incredible in hindsight. And I think Mitzi is right, MM was "difficult" as needed.

I understand what you went through Marilyn. People who shine naturally have a hard time here on earth. You were a good person, a caring person and I think you were very disappointed in people. Not so much of the women, but with the men. Marilyn lowered herself to get where she wanted to go. They gave her no choice. SAD! And when you do that you still have to go out and face the world, and that is not a good feeling. She had a hard time right from the start, but she was still able to shine! At 51 years old, ive only just started to really care who Marilyn was, amd it is the most heartbreaking thing. Over the past couple of weeks ive seen quite a few docs on her and each one echos the tragedy told by the last. I never had a clue she was so "alone".

When I first played Miami Beach in 1962, The Deauville was my home. In 1964, I shared its beautiful stage with The Beatles when we appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show broadcast live to millions across the country from the Deauville’s ballroom. It’s a moment that continues to reverberate across time and across music history. The Deauville helped establish Miami Beach as the “sun & fun capital of the world” and its showroom welcomed me and a host of artists in an era when this magic city was second only to Las Vegas as a major entertainment destination. I love Marilyn. I wish she could have stayed long enough to know how much she is loved and respected today. The studios (producers) were horrible to actresses and she took all the heat.

I am so glad Mitzi speaks with some insight and grace on Marilyn, since she knew her early on in her career, when she was more stable and acting more naturally in front of the camera. By the time Tony Curtis and then Laurence Olivier worked with her, she was much more insecure and seemed to endlessly irritate them. But oh, if they only knew: Marilyn was raised until the age of 15 in an orphanage and bad things happen to unprotected, beautiful girls in places like that. I saw a picture of Marilyn standing with the other orphanage children, when she was about seven. There is such a look of despair, quiet desperation and abandonment, her countenance looks markedly different from the other children. I believe her abuse started that early. One of the hallmarks of being chronically sexually abused is that you have Multiple Personality Disorder, where you compartmentalize what has happened to you so you can 'get on with life'. When we see her coming across as that "little, vulnerable girl, I believe we are seeing one of her personalities. Marilyn also showed evidence that she had been severely sexually abused for years growing up in that that she had a complete lack of personal boundaries when she gave a famous interview to a journalist. As she sat on a chair, she pulled open her robe to reveal she had nothing on underneath and she proceeded to nonchalantly comb her pubic hair as she talked with the journalist. This kind of behavior would be the result of experiences that taught her that her body was not her own, not private. This is NOT normal behavior, of course but think beyond your horror of it: it is the footprints of people who used her body as a child. I am convinced it is why she had such psychiatric difficulties as an adult, and not just because she never grew up in a loving home. Her psychiatrist attested that he invited her into his home, to sit around the table with him and his wife and children so she could see what a normal home life was like. But I don't believe he ever uncovered the abuse and the Multiple Personality Disorder that went with it. I became convinced she had MPD when I saw a close up film interview with Marilyn where she exhibited, as she moved toward the camera and then it (the camera) was inches from her face, the characteristic "micro-expressions" that pass over a person's face as they transition from one personality to another. I grieve for Marilyn and all the girls like her who retreat into MPD because of horrifying life experiences.

I saw There's No Business like Show Business at least 30 years ago when I was a preteen. I only remember two things about the show and both are about Marilyn. The scene where they all walked down the stairs. I didnt remember any dress of the ladies except I totally recall that Marilyn wore blue. Remarkable iconic star.

It's painfully obvious that Monroe's quote of 'Hollywood pays $1000 for a picture and $1 for your soul' seems true. You get financially rich but almost always lose yourself in the process.

Marilyn was a one of a kind talent. The biggest mistake she made was announcing she was going to hold a press conference the next day to disclose her relationship with JFK. The night before that press conference she "over dosed" & died. The missing pages from the White House Telephone Log have never been recovered for incoming calls of that fateful night. "Like a candle in the wind..."

I think she is one of the undervalued stars of the Hollywood studio system, Unfortunately for her , though she was being groomed to be the next 20Th Century Fox musical star, Marilyn came along. In later interviews, available on KZfaq, she is not so generous in her comments about Marilyn. It's understandable but its not very nice.

Such a shame. She was gorgeous, talented, but lonely and lacked self esteem for some reason. Men used her. She is an Icon for sure. We will never know for certain whether it was murder or suicide.

How do I suppose to feel about myself? Marilyn being so beautiful, knowing that she atracted people like no one, and yet, so insecure! How do I suppose to feel about myself? And yet I am content within myself. Maybe Marilyn had an idea of how the character in the movie should behave but she didn't quite grasp that idea to put it in the film. Maybe she was so demanding of herself. One thing is sure, she respected her work and wanted to excell at it.
