This is how I make my marinara. Except I use San marzono tomato’s and fresh basil. I always do mine in a large skillet because it helps cook out the water and caramelize the tomato’s and it doesn’t take all day to cook down.

Also easy: cut tomatoes in half lengthwise. Dip lightly in sugar if tomatoes aren't as ripe. Lay cut side down on a lightly oiled (olive oil) baking sheet. Broil until skins blacken. Remove from oven. Let them cool a little, then remove skins. You can now use the tomato mush for marinara sauce, or directly put it on pizza

No, no you don't "need" to blanch your tomatoes. You can if you enjoy working harder.... If you like to have it easier follow along. 1st. Cut out the stem. 2nd. Cut in half along the equador line. 3rd. Squeeze out, to waste seeds. 4th. Cook as you normally would. 5th. Run cooked product through a food mill. This will save time and effort. I use this meathod every year in large batch with grown, local-to-me San Marzano tomatoes. The skins get caught up in the mill. I get a sweet tasting great sauce with no added sugar needed. The food mill also makes a sauce with a lively texture. Youre welcome. ❤
