Rut ro Raggy! Well I hope the call handled it. Those guys have a big job and of what they see, this is unintentional and was not harmful. Great video and explanation of it.

Lol, rut ro is what went thru my mind when I took the call. Thankfully they allowed me to correct the unintentional error. They do have a big job, lot of water out there.

Great video and Public Service Announcement! Hopefully, they let you off with a warning only! As for me, a while back, I bought the regulation traps, non-floating rope, and hot pink buoys (must be 5"L x 5"D). I was all set to use them, then realized I would need to required Recreational Commercial Gear license, as I would be dropping them from the boat, while I was out fishing (mainly trying to get bait, but maybe an occasional crab for the low country boil!). Based on the number of fishing trips I get to make, I couldn't justify the $70/year RCGL. Hopefully, I will soon have a place on the water and I can tie them off to a pier or private property without the need for an RCGL.

Yeah agree, it's kinda pricey.

You need a hook (large fishing hook works) on the end of a broomstick handle so that you can pull the pot line in without having to lay down and grab it.

I’ve got a little spot just west of Aurora . How far west have you seen anyone catch sheepshead? I wonder how far up the river they will go??

I was out in this area yesterday… because of your video I took notice of the muscles.. they have moved in thick!! Will be interesting to see how it may change the fishing as you mentioned. This ecosystem is always changing. As for the fishing… no flounder for me but area was loaded with slot and puppies. Also saw a six point buck swimming across the water (yes he made it to the other side! ). And … the suspense.. is there going to be a video of your night time red drum trip , starring Big Jimmy Blue Crab??

That's why I love it down there, great fishing and it's still wild America! Big Blue's debut was a flop, not video worthy🤣

I would love to locate some little sheepshead down there but I swear that marsh doesn't lend itself to finding them very easily.

Agree. I'll be investigating this development and will update if I learn any technique that locates and catches them.

Love the videos and get so excited when I see a new one! Did you get a new rod from Nick? How about a run down on that new rod and how you are using it? Look forward to more videos!

Hi Kyle. Yes Nick has built a rod for me. I specifically had this rod built for popping corking big red drum. I will be using it for other things too. Sadly I have not picked up the rod yet because I haven't been to the obx in a few weeks. I'm hoping to get it on Sunday. I will definitely share some info and results on the rod in future content!

are Those "black" mussels or "bank" mussels? Up here only bank. mussels grow along the muddy banks like that. The bank mussels have ridges on their shell, and the black mussels are smooth. The black mussels however grow on boulders or piers.

So what I can find online, I believe they are Atlantic Ribbed Mussels, edible but tough? Is that the same thing as Bank Mussels?
@secretjourney4815
@secretjourney4815 2 жыл бұрын
@@haltysalty7537 indeed the ribbed mussels are “bank” mussels. We grew up always being told never to eat them. The “Blue” mussels are the smooth shell variety and delicious. Here is what dr google told me about the ribbed ones. “Although ribbed mussels are edible, they are tough and are not as popular for eating as blue mussels. During low tide, ribbed mussels close their shells, keeping in waste products that can be toxic to humans. For this reason, you should only collect mussels during high tide.” They are however excellent chum. I grew up fishing Eastern Long Island NY. We would fill a bucket with those bank mussels , crush them and chum up beautiful Winter Flounder. The large ones make great bait in calm waters. You just have to carefully thread the gob of mussel meat on the hook. I bet those sheeps would gobble that up right fast.

One more question. Ive seen you on a few different boats over the years. It seems like you like skiffs. Why do you prefer the skiffs over V hull? And what kind of boat are you running now? (the blue one?) Maybe do a future video on your boat rig, why you choose and do what you do? Thanks!

That's a really good suggestion for a video! Currently I'm running a 21 Carolina skiff, Carolina blue color. I do have friends with skiffs/flat bottom boats also. We fish alot on flats and in skinny water, flat bottom skiffs are nice because they can get real shallow. Not so nice on windy days.

@@haltysalty7537 I’m impressed with the amount of guys you can fish on the CSkiff. I’m asking a lot of questions, because we are moving near Swansboro next year. I’m trying to get a feel for not only the fishery, but what style boat and brand will serve me best. I see the Carolina skiffs everywhere in that area, but I also read a lot of negative reviews. In particular leaking Cskiffs. The foam underneath getting water logged. So I have been looking into other boats like “maycraft” and “bulls bay”. I just want a good reliable boat that doesn’t leak ha! Anyway keep those videos coming. BTW if those mussels are smooth shell, you can eat them, if they have the ridges, don’t eat!

@@secretjourney4815 definitely be careful when buying older Carolina skiffs. Put it in the water and make sure she sits nice and level. If any part of her sits lower than the rest, i.e. one corner, one side, front, back, she's holding water. Thanks for the mussel tips.

Along with Carolina Skiffs, a lot of folks run Jones Brothers in the Swansboro area.. skiffs are great for Swansboro as there is some skinny water down there. Lots off ultra fast moving current as you get closer to the inlet. There is some excellent fishing down there. I like fishing that area in the fall as there are a lot of speckled trout there and in the White Oak up to Stella

@@popnshots9139 TY. I appreciate the input. I’ve read good things about the Jones Bros skiffs. I’m 6 minutes from that ramp in Stella. I hear there are crappie an bass north of that ramp. I feel like a kid all over again getting ready to explore that region.
