This week's episode of Urban Valor shines a spotlight on Bryan Buckley, a Marine veteran with a remarkable story. Hailing from Doylestown, PA, Bryan's early years were dominated by football, a sport in which he excelled, securing two state championships. His path seemed set on football until the events of 9/11 shifted his focus dramatically. Motivated by a sense of duty, Bryan joined the Marine Corps as an officer, where he served in various capacities including the infantry, Force Recon, and as a Marine Raider within the Marine Special Operations Command. In this episode, Bryan shares his experiences of intense combat against the Taliban in Afghanistan's dangerous Helmand province, highlighting the challenges they faced, the losses they suffered, and the solemn duty of returning home with fallen heroes.

Man this damn channel, I get up go to work in the barn and just push play on my KZfaq because I am a Hillbilly ass Grunt and cannot figure out for the life of me how to find where pod casts are so I just just open KZfaq and first video push play and let the videos play as background sounds. I have had three or four of interviews show up on my suggested and they are always great, I just never hit subscribe because I forget about, but it is crazy all of the interviews hit home or like Doc Foncesca, it popped up on me out if nowhere on the 24 a day after 1/2 hit Nasiryah, and I saw some of that man's actions that earned him the Navy Cross that 23 of March. It helped me work out of that funk that had kind of set in on me hearing that and then hearing his interview really hit home and just made so much sense to so many questions I had inside. I didn't know this man in any way worked in the medical cannabis field. I also ended up with an injury where my right calcaneous completely exploded and like him if they had to use a big screw I was done. Woke up from the first surgery, had 6 bone blocks, 4 long ass screws, two plates and 12 smaller screws. Got out 5 surgeries later I told them I dine with surgery, next one cut it off. On top of my foot my other injuries the VA loaded me up on opiates, which was the worst decision they could have ever done. A Marine Infantry Combat Vet, all of a sudden out of his safety zone, multiple combat deployments, and I didn't realize yet I had some real PTSD issues I had no idea about. Longer I was home the more I noticed there weird feelings where I just didn't feel right. Then bouts of depression that I didn't understand because I never felt anything like it, but I also noticed if I took more of these pain pills I was good and I didn't feel any pain emotionally or physically, I thought I had found something no one else knew about with these opiate pain pills. The worse my PTSD symptoms got the more pills I would take, problem was I would run out quick. So I would call the VA and they would say hey no problem you had some break through pain, you come on down we will refill you. It got bad, the VA just kept upping the med to a stronger and stronger opiate, and raise up the milligrams until they had me methadone, I had lost everything, my family, my pride, I lost who I was completely because of these damn pills. Well about that time I met this woman and we got along and I confided in her one day I was struggling with addiction I wanted to quit but I was really in body pain too, and I was having a hard time defeating this stupid little pill that had taken complete control of my life. She said you should try smoking. I told her I can't smoke weed I am not 15 ,weed is for dirt bags and lazy college kids. But she was hot and she asked me to try and that day, my life was saved. I took one hit all the pain in my body disappeared, the desire my body had for the opiate chemical was gone, so I went to the VA my next appointment took the pain meds I had left and gave them the OIF OEF director at my VA told her I am done with the pills they had destroyed me, I am going to use cannabis. They freaked, yelled I couldn't start smoking weed because of my TBI, it was better for me to stay strung out on those damn pills. I refused left and went home. The next morning I had a VA home health aid standing at my door, I answered, she introduced herself and said the VA sent her there to ensure I was taking my pain medication. I refused told her thank you closed the door. Next morning she was at my door again, same interaction, finally I just answering my door. The VA was so against me smoking it was crazy. It saved my life. I can't explain how much it saved my life. I quit because I felt like shit that I using weed instead of aspirin and no plans on ever quitting the cannabis and so I put it down a year and a half ago. I wasn't the type to smoke all day, I would take a hit in the morning, just one hit to get my day started, then go all day may take a couple aspirin and would wait until after 11 pm to take two hits so I could relax enough to eat and I could feel the tension and the pain in my body just go away and I would sleep too. No nightmares it was amazing. But for some reason it got into my head that I was a piece of shit for taking three hits a day of cannabis. I need to get back to smoking again. I don't sleep much anymore since I quit and the body pain is sometimes hell to push through, so hearing him talk about his cannabis experience and that someone else uses it I don't judge myself so much. I just need to realize, I am taking a medication that is healthy. Thank you

Thank you for your service. I have served with Air Force officers for over 20 years but my final tour was serving with Marine Officers…when it comes down to leadership…many AF officers with the exception of Flyer, could use a lot of mentorship from the Marine officers. Oh do I have some doozies for comparison. I’m in charge of bed down the troops on my final deployment . AF O-3 (Finance) says Chief I demand a room to myself Me - Sir there are none available AF O-3 Gasp! I wanna speak with your commander now! Me- Ok sir he will be with you shortly Marine O-4 Evening Gunny, got any space for me? Me- No Sir, we have no single billet spaces available Marine O-4 (aviator) I’ll take a tent rack, I’m only gonna be here for 72 hrs. Me - I won’t be in my single for the next four days, I have 2 racks if you don’t mind being around us enlisted pukes. Marine officer - I’ll take whatever - so I handed him the keys and asked one of my guys to take him out to the enlisted area. No fuss just glad not to be sleeping in a tent!

I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday strangely as I now suffer with a t.b.i but I remember it well, i am Scottish and I had just passed my regiment training and was on leave due to mangling my feet during the last ruck before passing the training i don't know how i managed it but I forgot to put the insoles in my boots we have 2 sets one set are highly polished and ready for parade and the other set are your working boots i just forgot to swap the insoles and by the end of the ruck my feet looked like a packet of bacon strips i was sent to s civilian hospital for treatment and they didn't have a clue how to treat my injury i ended up at the regiment docs and they knew what to do basically they soaked my feet in salty water 😢 and then left me for an hour then they started cutting off all the dead skin and i think it was pig skin they covered the wounds with it was experimental at the time and it worked but anyway I was allowed leave as it was the summer block leave so I went home to Scotland and I was visiting a friend the morning of 9/11 and we just got back from dundee and i turned on his t.v and it was showing the twin towers smouldering i said is this a film its a strange time next thing my mobile rings and its my dad saying i had to get back to the barracks asap my leave was cancelled within 2 days i think it was it felt like the whole british army were on this exercise and i was lucky enough to watch the sas doing drills coming into the runway in a Hercules c130 as it landed landrovers were coming out the rear cargo doors and driving off left and right and the hercules never stopped it just took off again i think within the month we were deployed yeah it must have been around November my section was the rapide deployment section and it was insane from the start to the finish i joined at the right time all the combat experience we had after nearly 30 years of nothing except Ireland and exercises

Do you know why people were jumping out of the building? Thermite heat made it unbearable. Why did that maint guy from the tower say he heard explosions in the basement before the plane hit? over 100 of the nations top achitects and engneers say theres no way the building could have fallen like that. Nobody can explain away the molton steel dripping from the building, the fact they said the plane that went down because the passengers fought back. They claimed the plane hit the ground and just disapeaed under ground. come on

I hope a lot of these veterans are being sincere about the woman holding her dress down moment on 9/11 because it seems to me it can be used as a profound moment to include I their motivation Mr America needs me military service story after seeing other claim that was their moment in life that guided them towards that direction taking advantage of the dramatic effectiveness it would have towards their story 😔. Not denying it is a fact but it just so happens that everyone veteran I know in life hasn’t ever said that was the reason why they joined but everyone n televisions seems to have joined because of that 🤔 idk….. just hope they are being sincere. That woman deserves utmost respect 🫡

Disappointed that cannabis was the thing that helped, as I've seen so many lives permanently altered by it in a bad way. I used to be gung ho on reform, but I've changed my tune on that these days. It's been a net-negative for people here in Colorado.

I’m a Marine vet as well and fell in-love with it for 8 yrs. I’m off it forever now. Net negative everywhere I’m thinking. Between the current thc levels and the additives, it’s become something sinister.
