One thing you might notice in the Canadian (CF) Forces is the average age of corporals and sergeants, usually much older than in the American forces. You should notice this with UK, Aussie, etc. forces as well. This is true with lieutenants, captains and majors as well.

Considering there are 13 enlisted ranks excluding warrant officers in the US army as opposed to 4 in the Canadian forces .... it just makes sense. Even when you include warrant officers in Canada there are still only 7. Rank means alot more in canada.

I was with 2 RCR till 2017. Miss the guy's, the field, but, not the Garrison. The firing full auto off to the side of the target is to keep the "muscle memory" intact, to keep the drill in place that when you come up to a trench you clear it by posting a granade then spraying the bad guys with a burst of full auto. Our weapons fire a 5.56 NATO round, using single or full auto fire rates. Miss doing target practice and doing the kill house's, good training, minus the shitty kit we have. Also, if you get a chance to get the adapter for the lazer tag kit on your C7, you can turn your C7 into a God gun shooting nothing but Carl G rockets...good times lol. Cheers from Canada and enjoy the time ya got with your friends, time goes by to quickly.

I have a cousin who took participated in this exercise a few decades ago. He was not comfortable sleeping in the fox hole, so he got out and bedded down beside it during the night. When the "mortars" started coming in he just about ate one. During the exercise he also managed to lose his rifle during a night pee-break. He had to walk around the next day holding a stick and yelling "I am a F**K pot". He was not a super soldier by any definition of the word. 🙂

Canada just updated it's military dress code taking effect early September 2022. Now all service members can wear their hair as long as they want, but it has to be symmetrical and well groomed. We can even have face and neck tattoos but obviously the ink cannnot be associated with anything negative. And until now, assault pioneers, special forces and sailors at sea were the only elements of the Canadian military permitted to rock a beard. What a modern time we live in lol
@chrisburke624
@chrisburke624 Жыл бұрын
Slight correction...most CoC's have been pretty accepting of beard chips for 'medical reasons' for the last year or two 😉😅 As for the new dress standards... we've been dreading them since discreetly announced internally back in October. I have a feeling the internal culture of the military will still rectify any pink hair or earring nonsense, for the most part.

oh god you're 100%, the issued frag vest and tac vest (aka the fishing vest) are horrendous. Some units have totally done away with tac vests and just let guys wear whatever as long as its greeen/tan. We also use WES (weapons effect system) not MILES, its similar but incorporates wounding and treatment by other troops so the god gun isn't' as needed. Its also integrated into some of the vehicles. Also the WES gear stops beeping after you lie down on the ground.

Call sign 11 would usually be 1st company 1st platoon, and then alphabetical for each section/attachment. So i was in an amb, I believe I was 31d but i it was so long ago, can't remember exactly. Each mechanized platoon has (or had in my day) 3 lavs, 1 armored amb (usually Tlav or bison) and an engineer section, in a lav as well. Then every company also had a mechanic/weapons tech attachment.

01:44 Canadian Forces chow is always better than the US options...as a Canadian cadet visiting Fort A.P Hill in Virginia we were always mobbed by US JROTC to trade food with them...Canadian IMPs are just superior to MREs (not to mention hot A-Rations supplied even on field exercises). That said, MREs come with hotsauce, which is the only item anyone with an IMP may actually trade for.

Always enjoy your comments when watching these videos. And just to expand on some of the callsigns, who's who, etc. As Brian Hewlitt @brianhewlitt2989 mentioned callsign 1-1 is the platoon commander, in this case "Borto", so number 1 company, number 1 platoon. When he says "1 this is 1-1" technically it's the platoon HQ calling the company HQ. And callsign "niner" would be the actual commander, i.e. callsign 1-9 would be the company commander. And as Brian mentioned, callsigns 1-1-A, 1-1-B, 1-1-C are the section/squads. Or Alpha, Bravo, Charlie for short. Listen for "over" at the end of a conversation when issuing orders, on the radio, directly to his section/squad commanders. Also, notice in the live fire portion just before dismounting, callsign 1-1 says "Charlie Charlie 1-1" which means all stations 1-1, i.e. the entire platoon, or the "Collective Callsign". The order being to dismount was a "three up T" formation. Also says "Tango-3-4 this is 1-1 you can punch now" which I'm assuming is a tank troop assigned to his platoon. "Tango" for tanks, so, the troop of tanks would come from the 3rd squadron, 4th troop. Very quickly in terms of who's who... Guys walking behind, wrapped with white tape on their arms, are safety officers making sure everybody respects their arcs of fire and nobody gets shot. Guys with orange patches on their arms are OCTs (Observer Controller Trainer) who are just watching and listening. OCTs have radios, access to GPS coordinates, can see the entire battlefield through electronics, etc. So, they can even throw in a monkey-wrench to screw things up for the attacking force.

Just to add, for the eagle eyes out there, look closely at the platoon commander, callsign 1-1, when guys run up to him from behind during the live fire portion. Scene with two safety officers wearing white tape. Freeze-frame, zoom-in, and you'll notice a battle badge on his right arm. Has his name, nationality, rank, blood type, last three digits of service number and any drug allergies, i.e. NKDA (No Known Drug Allergies). All the info you would need for someone who's been wounded, etc. Wonder if that's standard kit or some sort of pilot project? Either way, that battle badge is pretty cool.

hey man, just to update ya, usually the callsigns work as in India 11 being the infantry of Alpha company 1st platoon, India 21 being the infantry of Bravo company 1st platoon. and when you refer to other units you would start by addressing what occupation they are ie. Armoured, infantry, combat engineers, India being reserved for infantry, Tango for the armoured and Echo for the engineers. Also we use the Lav 6.0 as we have just fazed out the coyote or Lav 25.

CFB Wainwright is located in Alberta, Canada - and is home to the Land Force Western Area combat schools. Each year, the unit designated as the high readiness unit (Able to deploy within 24 hours notice) does their final qualification exercise - which is Exercise Maple Resolve. The different skill sets practiced throughout the rest of the year all come together, with Maple Resolve being the final checkmark needed. During this month long exercise, Is the unit will focus on mechanized warfare, dismounted warfare, aggressive patrolling, get everybody qualified on comms, urban warfare, how to call in effective artillery & air strikes, etc **The base has 6 mock villages, ranges for everything from small arms up to Leopard 2 tanks. There are barracks available on base, some of which are fairly new - But troops will always sleep in tending of some kind during these types of exercises, As that will be similar to their accommodation when deployed.

For those interested in the various lasers and electronic simulations being used during the force-on-force segment... I put together some short clips of a 45-minute "Truth Duty Valour" episode from several years ago: CMTC - Introduction: kzfaq.infoUgkxa6smhnev3vs5IZPMBfzcveZqnVK0RUeg CMTC - EXCON: kzfaq.infoUgkxujwHdul0DfOYebiyzqeDCRycYGoVO8BH WES #1: kzfaq.infoUgkxkmFzuxNyxSkN1d32JCLeHR2Ym9q4EvnR WES #2: kzfaq.infoUgkxwirUpALzAmrNFAscxgg3ae6YeeniMExL WES #3: kzfaq.infoUgkxSAC2fGMjNbIl3DyVhPi4lZnMzCjpkaUs All the equipment is part of the WES (Weapons Effect Simulation) system being used at the CMTC in Wainwright, Alberta. Lot's of cool stuff that includes rifles, grenades, vehicles. The WES system even calculates the time remaining before you're dead. So, be sure to watch the whole video at the following link to see how it all works: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJdoarmetLy9hmQ.html

Maple Resolve is everything combined, even some of yall american guys come up for it every year and we get to watch all the civilians freak out thinking we're being invaded lmao. Those are LAV6s, the stryker is an americanized version of our old Bisons which is the grandfather of our LAVs.

In a military exercise, a civilian old man wants to cross a small bridge, so he asks two soldiers if he can cross. The answer is no, because the enemy is on the other side and there is a lot of shooting going on. The old man leaves and returns the next day. He sees the same two soldiers on the bridge and asks again if he can cross the bridge. this time the answer he gets is: We don't know, we got killed yesterday...

The 8-wheeled vehicles you’re looking at are LAV’s, not sure if it’s the LAV III or LAV VI, but they are absolute beasts when it comes to anything IFV or APC related. Only downside: unlike the Bradley, it doesn’t have any effective anti-tank weaponry

@@officialboomtish214 non-functional monuments really? Oh man its good thing that the Canadian Armored Corps is still running the M3 Stuart, because of those 2 monuments in Borden. Damn I didn't know the artillery still used 25 pounder guns since those are monuments basically everywhere. /sarcasm There are no ACTIVE USE lav3's in the CAF. And before you say it the bison and coyote are LAV 2's and NO ONE uses AVGP's anymore.

Easiest way to identify them us the 6 has rectangular headlights mounted inside the body. It also has storage compartments down both sides. The III had circular headlights mouted above the main body of the vehicle. I don't think any III's remain in service.
