I've been in the Infantry the last three and a half years and just re-enlisted to go to MSG. Im really looking forward to it and welcome the boredom from time to time. Ive had my fill of 'excitement' for a bit. But I expect you have to be on your toes at all times regardless of the boredom.

@2004MSG i dont know if i have ever been more motivated than i ever have been thanks to you and all your super duper intelligent comments! i commend you 2004MSG, for all you have done and all you will do, running from the fleet staying on this program for the rest of your enlistment!!!!!! HOOAH go army beat navy!

I was a MSG and I thought the video was cheesy. The job is cool for what it exposes you to, but the work is almost always boring. I don't regret doing it though. The TS clearance and having the experience on my resume has helped me out a lot in the civilian world.

Check out the Bourne Identity. Where Matt Damon takes out some MSGs. However you should watch how MSGs operate when there is trouble at any US Embassy. Hoorah!

I went through MSG School in 1984 and succesfully finished the duty at embassies in Prague, Czechoslovakia ('84-'86) and Montevideo, Uruguay ('86-'87). We had good training, but it looks like the present training was more intense. One thing to note: we couldn't own or even drive any car when I was on that duty, nor could we have any weapons in the Marine House or on us on liberty. I could never understand that, especially about the right to defend ourselves in our own home.

@WESTJET101 I did. Funny thing is there are no Outback's in Canada. If they were coming out of The Keg that would be more believeable.

@4threconmarine Just to add a little to your comment here. I was on MSG duty during this time frame, and split-tales only went to the cushy posts, and the ones with large detachments. Obviously the attempt was to minimize the chance of a female getting into any kind of coup or evacuation scenario. From what I witnessed, nearly all of the "participants" either became pregnant or married State Department personnel as soon as their tour was over. Females came back in 1989. "Easy" posts only

Bwahaha! Best video EVAR!!! You really can't make a 'real' MSG video. No one wants to watch a guy in a box pushing a button for numerous hours. Glamour? No glamour with four collateral duties, baby! YEAH!!

You first talk to the career planner. Then you submit a package for screening and if you pass screening you attend school. Then if you pass screening and testing you graduate and go to your first embassy or consulate

@GateGuard100 the whole contract embassy security guard thing are not for the embassy itself. They're civilian companies that get contracted by the department of state to guard new embassies that are in the process of being built. Once built, the Marines move in and takes guard. The Cleared American Guards (CAG) make bank when they do they're job..

@11Bwifey The Army was originally placed in charge of embassy secority in the 1940's, but later lost the duty because the soldiers were not disciplined enough to handle the isolation or the stress. The Marines took over in the 1950's and have been performing the mission ever since. Due to the arduous duty stations, and extra long unaccompanied tours, no other branch of the service has had the guts to try to take it away from the USMC.

Things are still the same if not more strict then what you had. Marines have a shorter curfew then you had. Plus we still can't operate or own a motor vehicle. Even if you go stateside for leave/liberty you are required to have permission from the CO to drive or rent a vehicle to drive.

Again I will answer this to best of my ability probaly to be corrected again. Im pretty sure there is someone on guard at all times of the day. I dont know exactly why they have to go back though. Maybe to get ready and go help the guards. I am really not sure on that one.

are the security guards part of marine security forces? because i choose that MOS two weeks ago. =] seems like a badass job.
@Shadowbird9215 жыл бұрын
No you cannot have embassy duty right after boot camp.First you have to be signed up for Security Forces. Then boot camp then you have to go to SOI(School of Infantry) and then complete the Security Forces Training. Then after that you will be deployed to your destination. I have answered your question to the best of my ability. If I am wrong someone please correct me and make sure you are right.

Marine Security Guards guard Embassies and Consulates. Marine Security Forces guard nukes and submarines. They also comprise the 3 FAST companies the Marine Corps has. 2 different MOS's

Bachelors is the minimum requirement, in order to be competitive for any GS-1811 (Criminal Investigator or "Special Agent") position, you're going to want to have either a masters, juris doctorate, or bachelors + maybe a few years local law enforcement experience

Because their threat spectrum is similar to an urban policeman who would almost never need a high caliber rifle. Shotguns and small caliber rifles/pistols are sufficient for their interior CQB scenarios. An M4 would shoot through the wall and kill the secretary in the next room.

you don't need a law degree for that. You just need to pass the exams to get in. Bachelors and some work or a masters should help. As a GS 13 overseas you will not make over 100,000 a year. Maybe they do on TV but not in real life, even with locality pay!

I was on MSG duty from 98-01. I had a little laugh at this video. This is not a drill.... yet there's a clip of them stacked up and the point man comes out with a red dummy pistol... then they correct it and show them coming out of a door way with actual weapon... who edited this video...

Its not an MOS at all! its a B billet. A special duty. you have to already be in the fleet with whatever your MOS is then request to join. Its a good program but it has its downs like everything else.

@nietorm Don't forget having to explain to the Det Cmdr repeatedly why he cannot eat for free at the Marine House every day after PT and guard school. At most Dets, the MSGs have to give up all of their B.A.S. to pay for food, the cook, and the maids. Then, the freeloaders want to come and eat the Watch Standers out of house and home. Some of the really chinchy ones will even bring their families.
@Nogeri14 жыл бұрын
To any prospective Marines out there looking to do this. Unless you are a SSgt, it will not not count as your B-Billet, also 3am curfew and a fuckton of rules. Talk to a prior MSG before doing it. Greatway to get a (online) degree since you do have more spare time. But oh my god it can be gay.

@JCPKSK8 dude..... dude, dude, dude...... i would say VOLUNTEER is the opposite of what this is called. if you want to read up on this program there is fascinating articles on this. look up the Holocaust, and if you HATE sleep, oh and dont mind a 7day work week with a possible nap in there somewhere, aaaaaaand you dont mind NOT driving for 3 years this is right up your alley! ive lived the last two years in an alcoholic haze so some of this may be a bit blurry for facts...
