Marine Starter with Drive Sticking Problems

This is a situation where a person had trouble with a brand new starter drive sticking. All it was is a burr caused by the manufacturing process. All I did was remove the burr and grease the shaft. Thanks for the info tried it on my johnson 88 starter was not engaging and greased it up now we are in business. Thanks again

I’ve got a ‘96 Johnson 88 that’s sticking on me. Did you use marine grade grease or dielectric grease? Also, did you do any cleaning prior to greasing? Appreciate any response (especially since this is 2 years ago)

Had the same problem with my snow blower due to light corrosion. After cleaning i used marine grease on the shaft and spring. It's been okay since.

I had a similar problem with my riding mower starter, it wasn't making any sound, neither did the starter engage, I took a flat head screwdriver and lifted the drive and it started, I made sure I was out of the way, could that also be my problem ?

How do you get nut off the end of shaft? Is it right hand threads or left?

This is a Long shot on such an old video but what about when the starter will not shut off?? Replaced the solanoid and the key switch and still the same issue 😩

My 2004 Yamaha f25 outboard starter will not disengage do i need to replace it or can there be another issue ?

mine is engaging but the pinion is slipping on the shaft and doesn't turn the engine at all

On a brand new mercury black max starter; I've tried the lube and didn't work. I added a washer to prevent the Bendix gear to go all the way down, and the issue was resolved. (hope this help)

john doe Sounds like the factory didn’t get the specs rat on the clearance that’s why I had to add a washer to make it work shame on the manufacturers

Is it possible for it to shoot up and shut the engine off? I was out on the lake yesterday going about 40mph and bam it turns off and only clicks and wont start. Starter is stuck on flywheel
