Thank you. Love videos when there is actual dialogue from Marines. It shows how the heart of a warrior never changes no matter when he engages. Its easy to hear someone use the same words now, imbued with the same meaning. Thank you for your service.

Of all the videos I've watched concerning Belleau Wood, not one of them... nor many books I've read... have said just how far the Marines attacked across the wheat field. 200 yards? 500? 700? 1000?. Google Earth clearly shows Belleau Wood, but there's no way to find out where they started from. Does anyone know?

One of the greatest battles in america's history for this reason alone--- it was fought simply to see who was better. Belleau wood had no real strategic importance in the war. The Germans and Americans simply slugged it out with each other. That my friends is TRUE bad-assery on BOTH sides.

What a shock: the French retreat because the goal is “too difficult,” while our Marines accomplish the critical objective despite the very daunting sacrifices and challenges involved.

Well the french army had been stuck into a meat grinder for 4 years at this point
@roykiefer7713
@roykiefer7713 6 жыл бұрын
@MaiSent: While that is obviously true, it is neither a reasonable nor a valid explanation for the French inability to repel Germany’s invasion of their Homeland. Weakness of will, poor strategic thinking, unwillingness to innovate, and flagrant leadership failures were the genesis of France’s abominable battlefield performance. A generation of young Frenchmen died, or were horrifically wounded, because their senior leaders were too willing to sustain massive casualties and too unwilling to even attempt a war based upon mobility and integrated firepower (combined arms), rather than static positions and abject slaughter.
@bigsanchez2963

It's funny how many people think that the French are "weak" but over all in history they have one the most wars collectively. They also took over most if not all of Europe. So they seem strong to me
@roykiefer7713
@roykiefer7713 6 жыл бұрын
@Michael Sanchez: History is interesting and even instructive, but political, economic, military and international gravitas/strength focuses on the frequently asked question “what have you done lately?”. By your flawed logic, the Egyptians, the Greek City states, the Carthaginians, and the Romans - among several others - should be perceived as mega-powers. However, they currently are not . . . and for valid, substantial reasons.

Oh, look, it's another brain dead hamburger. Read about battle of Verdun, you cretin, fighting far heavier than any US unit seen during either World War, then you can bark about courage, you imbecile. The fact a few muricans as dumb as you were oblivious to danger and preferred to needlessly die instead of looking at bigger strategic picture (especially seeing it was officer, who was sitting safely at the rear) and being smart about minimizing losses like French vets is no reason to glorify stupidity.
