I remember really enjoyng a version of this for the DS. But I think you don't play with Mario, instead you would guide the mini Marios and activate switches and stuff with the STYLUS. I remember it beeing a pretty good, chill puzzle game.

Funnily enough, the original "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" was meant to be a GBA remake of "Donkey Kong '94" before they retooled it into what became "Mario vs. Donkey Kong". Here's hoping that "Donkey Kong '94" will come to NSO someday, then.

The gameplay is similar enough that it seems like wasted potential not to make it a DK94 + MvDK game. They already did the hard part of creating the engine. Adapting it slightly for DK94 and adding its levels likely wouldn't have been an awful lift. Throw in a level editor and it would've been the ultimate love letter to the MvDK GB era.

I think this game would have been worth it if it also had DK94, Mario Vs DK 2, and Minis march again(the DSiware one). It also would have been great if they added the level builder from the DS games

@@senorpoodles1755 So was the original game on Gameboy Advance and I'd rather have it just be on NSO if they're not going to make the remake worthwhile. I think the only neat addition to this remaster is that you can play it in local multiplayer but that's not worth the price of the game

Why remake a remake? I prefer the original Donkey Kong 94 (GB), which consecrated the arcade game, and introduced the acrobatics of Mario 64. With a more demanding level design to enhance its physics and a faster pace. Score, timer and lives brought challenge, risk-taking and reward, while retaining the arcade heritage. You can even play it in color on SNES or emulator.

They should do stand alone Donkey Kong Games again. From SNES era until early Wii Days they put so many out, nowadays Wario and Yoshi get way more love as franchises. It’s not that I specifically ask for a Country, Climber or Bongo game, i just want new games that have the Kong Family and Kremlins in it.

That price tag has always been an issue with Nintendo. Unless it's part of a best-of collection, they don't sell them for less than $20 dollars before tax. Happens even less now.

I remember The Lonely Goomba reviewing the original Mario vs DK games a while back and thinking the games looked interesting, but when I saw this remake announced I was just confused. Like we haven't gotten a new Star Fox game or a new F-Zero game in forever but Nintendo's gonna set a team on remaking this? Idk. I feel like the people at Nintendo at this point are just like "If Mario's name is on it, it will sell. If Zelda's name on it, it will sell." Idk. I kind of wish Nintendo would experiment more.

I've personally never been the biggest on puzzle games, though adding the Mario spin to it admittedly does help to add some extra appeal. I've seen a few folks play the original, and a bit of this remake, and while I can definitely see the general idea of what it has to offer, I can't say for certain that I'd want to take the time to play it. It sits among the various "Fun to watch, less fun to play" games for me, but for those that DO enjoy it, I'm happy folks have the option to play it again, on more easily accessible, modern hardware. Great video as always, Jirard. Looking forward to the next one man.

The origina GBA game retailed for $40 in 2004. That would be two tenners more accounting for inflation but given the game's age it is now worth way less. This remaster should be $30 then, at least that ticket price would make more people satisfied.

I get what your'e saying with this Remake/Remaster discussion. Like if there's 2 games that people are begging for a re-release are Transformers War For Cybertron and it's sequeal, Fall of Cybertron. At a first glance, you can say that they're just another 3rd person shooter from the time, but they did so much the show more the world and chararcters that we grow up with. Not only these two, but other fan favorites too: God Hand, Darkwatch, Front Mission, Neversoft's Spider-Man and so on. They didn't even need a remake or remaster, because they still hold up, remaking or remastering them would just enhance the experience if done well, and that's what we want, to remember these games as good as they were.

This game feels the same for me as Bowser’s Inside Story on 3DS. A remake on a system on its way out and getting moreso ports and remakes, and while I appreciate it existing and it had some nice new additions and improvements, it ultimately was completely unnecessary. At least MvsDK has the advantage of being the only way to play the game on Switch, whereas you already had the original BIS to play via backwards compatibility.

funny cuz i felt the original 3D graphics look terrible on the DS, i felt a pixel graphic version would have worked better. but now it is like for real 3D graphics which looks great.

Coulda been a Donkey Kong 94 Remake, could have been a DK64 remake... But we take what we can get at least.

Having never seen the original, I liked this game but found it far too easy. Don't get me wrong there were like, 5 levels that made me want to pull my hair out, and I WAS in casual mode so maybe that helped that, but even then I hardly got damaged until the later plus worlds. It also felt shorter than I thought it would be. I was breezing through levels so it felt like I was getting through a world in less than 20 minutes. I will have to try a normal mode playthrough soon to see how I fair without the crutch lol. Personally wish I had not bought it for the 50 dollar price tag, but I did enjoy what I got very much as a fun little puzzle platformer.

I do agree that at $50, this remake is more than a little too expensive, but if this means that Nintendo is going to make sure older games get ported to newer consoles so that they aren't locked away to emulation or overpriced resellers on eBay, then I applaud it.

I never got to play this game when it came out for Game Boy Advance. I’m just glad it wasn’t $60.

Crazy how Nintendo didn't ship a lot of copies to stores on release to create that fear of missing out like how they did with Metroid Prime Remastered. I look for the new Princess Peach game to be the same way.
