Where to start so you guys probably know that Cinestill 800T in Japan Cost roughly 30$usd...which is crazy stupidly expensive (sorry for the foul language) im hyped....since Marix started selling ( I do not recall when though) the 800T variant of Cinestill and it is sold for roughly 15$usd for 35mm (36exp) half the price of Cinestill 800T
In this video I would like to clarify the company brand what they sell film stocks specifically and also where you could buy them mostly in stores actually.
Marix is a 3rd party brand in Japan that rerolls/respools Kodak Vision stock onto their own brand patrone.
***up until recently the 800T I wasnt able to see at Lemon Sha and some camera shops are not selling it unfortunately and you can purchase online and if you do buy it in the eco package format you get a significant discount from 2250yen to 1850yen so hoping this video will make sense to alot of people.

Great video Ryo. Very curious film, and good recommendations on the risk of exposure by bringing film in traveling. Haneda airport was one of my unexpected fun visits in Japan. I took so many photos of the ceiling and the top floor walk way XD

I have to agree Haneda Airport is by far one of rather intriguing airport design I was surprised by the Bridge where you can look down on ppl 😂 but great to see compared to pre pandemic when it was isolated the walkway is probablyy favorite location to shoot

@@RM.TokyoPhotographer I can only imagine... empty airport might be one of the most unsettling places. Reminds me of an old movie I saw when little, where people flying in a commercial airplane somehow traveled in time, and landed on an empty airport.

Discovered Marix 800T on my last visit. Whacky stock. Great results. Can't wait to shoot on it when I get back.

Congrats on getting one is is whacky film stock indeed since I initially thought it was a Chinese brand but when I looked into it it's Kodak rerolled made in Japan 😆

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on the Marix film. I've heard of it from another KZfaqr and I might give it a try later on this year when I visit your country. Quick question: Do you know of any lab in Tokyo or Kyoto/Osaka that develops BW film in one day? I won't need to scan it, just develop it to avoid X-rays on my way back home. Cheers.

Ur welcome I never used it but tac in Nakano Shinbashi/Shinjuku seems to do monochromes in a day if I'm right www.tac-photo.co.jp/prolab/access.html

Noice vid, when traveling to Japan from the states I keep my film with me in my carry on but when I get to screening I take it out and ask for a hand inspection, they will swab for explosives and give it back without going through the xray. Supposedly I was reading the carry on xray is not as strong than the checked bag xray, I made the mistake this past trip to ny to remove film from my carry on so it got xrayed, I was too depressed to shoot it to there and risk things not coming out, but will let you know how much it affected it once I shoot those rolls locally on things that dont need to come out perfectly...

Yup I hear the checked baggage get abusive in terms of x-ray violation lol 😆 better to get it hand checked. If its like iso 200-400 I think you won't have too much an issue but the 800 iso might get busted if you go for many transits across the ocean :)

@@RM.TokyoPhotographer Haneda staff are so friendly. They hand-checked my film when I asked. Back here in London they're more likely to throw you through the X-Ray if you asked them to hand-check it.

@@tombenjaminjames116 thats great to hear but the great thing about Japan is mostly they will hand expect and if you can prevent that once vs having it scanned here and back you wont get that much effect from the xrays since it went only once instead of twice and the probablity of fogginess decreases...oh English ppl after brexit why do you keep blocking us...haha

Going to Japan next week and want tot shoot this film on my point and shoot but it has no DX code and my camera defaults to ISO 100. Should i scratch a DX code into it? Not really sure what my options are for nighttime photography in Japan
@RM.TokyoPhotographer

It should come with dx code sticker I forgot to mention it but mine came with a sticker u lable on film so the film camera can read

I am travelling to Tohoku next month and am looking to buy and have my film developed over there. Are there any labs I can mail my rolls to to get developed and scanned that you recommend?
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 2 ай бұрын
I actually never did it so I can't say much but I hear prolabservice in Tokyo does receive film and process color negatives and monochromes www.tac-photo.co.jp/prolab/ From looking at their website the process takes 2-3 days

Is this the same thing basically as the vibe 800?
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting I found it's tungsten based so highly likely it's similar to Cinestill 800T but if in right the Vibe 800 only has 27 exposure vs 36? Correct me if in wrong it's the Vibe series is hella expensive in Japan 2,800yen
