My main concern the moment I heard of it was whether it was going to completely replace physical dollars... whether I was going to have a choice to use it or not. Seems like I will. I also wanted to know if I could convert out of it. I'm still not sure about that with the U.S. version but my research leans me to believe that I will. It seems harmless, as well as inevitable. 114 countries are experimenting with CBDCs or rolling them out in test phases. They can probably serve niche markets where fast receipt of actual funds is critical and parties don't care if the government can easily find out what they're spending it on. Most are generating very little interest from citizens. China's had one since 2020 and it requires adoption by the user. Less than a fifth of one percent of the Chinese Yuan is digital. Not even China is forcing its population to use it yet.
