It was still a healthy break up though, also shows that not everyone can handle dating a superhero
@patrickzalatoris32062 ай бұрын
I think the breaking point was amber being a real hostage for annisa to use against Mark, amber being a normal human just literally a finger poke away from death, it was the scariest thing she's ever dealt with, and this was a situation where an enemy knew marks true alias, his lineage, and used someone he loved to get what she wanted out of mark

This was no pointless relationship, not narratively at least. This is a sad, terrifying predicament. Mark wanted to lead a happy, quaint, enriching human life, just like his mom, and in spite of viltrumites. He wanted to so badly, negligent of his metric of power, but obligation after obligation came, robbing him months of earthly time. Anissa was the last straw, she killed Mark's way of life, that sense of normalcy given throughout all his childhood. Him coming to face that, and the temptations of violence he likens to Nolan, and inadvertently failing/endangering Amber. It all hits him at 2:26, the love was hurting. It was a bitter, ugly ending to a cute chapter of his life, which made him cry, which admittedly made me too.
@aset8750Ай бұрын
It was definitely a realization for Mark that he will never live a normal life, no matter how hard he tries. Hence the scene with Debbie on the roof.

While yes the relationship was dragged on, I think that this scene was handled perfectly. I know a lot of people here are glad that Amber and Mark broke up because of Amber's season 1 move, but the way I look at that is as a blunder on the part of the writers, and everything we've seen in season 2 with her improvements is their attempt to rectify it, and you know what? I think they gave us a character that could justify being forgiven for the crappy writing in season 1. The Amber and Mark break up was inevitable, but at least it was handled well, at least you can sympathize with Amber here, and at least she hasn't been a conniving manipulative piece of crap this season, stringing Mark along. They have a mature break up, which is SO REFRESHING to see, not just in media, but anywhere, because we all know mature break ups are incredibly rare. Kudos to the writers for this one. Hopefully they don't drop the ball with anything else later on.
@NeutralGuyDoubleZero2 ай бұрын
Yeah while i hated amber initially, I came to understand that the writers simply didnt consider what they were doing/saying with her fully in that episode. Ie they simply forgot they had her yell at Mark for leaving her at the college against the reanimen when they had her reveal she knew.
@Rannulfus2 ай бұрын
@@NeutralGuyDoubleZero It was a simple fix, either plot out where you want Amber to go from the start as to not have her say anything that makes her seem horrible and contradictory, or review everything Amber had done up until that point to avoid having her say anything horrible and contradictory. AND don't have everyone else around Mark blame him for... keeping a secret that is very understandable as to keep? That's what pissed me off most personally, that it seemed like everyone was on Amber's side afterwards, but that's also what mad it clear that it was a writers' blunder.
@NeutralGuyDoubleZero2 ай бұрын
@Rannulfus A simple fix that they didn't think of. Oh well. For me it really was just her contradictory anger at Mark, which I think for a lot of people poisoned her other traits. Suddenly her passion for doing good felt instead like it's from a place of selfishness and pride. Her vibe became manipulative and bitchy, instead of fiery and thoughtful. I think the writers are very aware of this from her season 2 djalogue constantly reaffirming her love for what Mark does and that she understands how important his hero work is. She's been somewhat redeemed for me. Her comic counterpart is kind of a vanilla blondie so show amber is more memorable a least.

@@GameHunterDeathhunter honestly? Maybe for the best. There's no way you can really justify Amber being angry in season 1 and the backlash was real. Could've had Mark get mad back at her for her reasons, but it would've felt awkward to do so much later on. Her reasons here are fully valid, there are people who can't date Cops/Firefighters/military for the same reason, and this is honestly what a lot of people voiced as being what they WANTED Amber to be mad about early on. For me? I think if they just changed one thing about Amber's initial blow-up, it would've been just fine. If Amber stated in that blowup (and wasn't mad at Mark for not spilling the beans on his secret identity, OR for spilling it TOO EARLY!) that she wasn't mad at *him*... just mad at the situation and the fact that she COULDNT blame him because what he was doing was good, but it was still tearing her up regardless, which is the concern she expressed here. I still hate that scene in Season 1, but I think going a different route instead of trying to double down on what was clearly a bad change from the comics? I think that was a good call on the writers part.
@nielsdejong2 ай бұрын
No, they merely reverted her personality back to her original self. They should have kept her like how she was in the comic, which includes her appearance. Raceswapping a character just to appeal to a bunch of racist people just leaves a bad taste in my mouth (and yes, raceswapping a white character to being black IS racist. You are essentially saying that her original skincolor "isn't good enough". Imagine if it was the way around).
@CarlBeringer2 ай бұрын
@@nielsdejong I mean... I'd agree that raceswapping white to black for no reason than just to appeal is pretty racist, however it's not crucial to her character for being a certain appearance. I think the character's just fine appearance wise, my only gripe is how she blew up in Season 1, as everyone has made clear they're not okay with either. There's a difference between raceswapping solely for the sake of appealing, and raceswapping because 'honestly it doesn't matter', and Ive got no issue with this. This is a different matter than taking, say, Iron Fist and making him Asian (Which also is kinda racist that people feel the need to make martial arts characters all asian...) When one of the aspects of the character is to show that he's not a native to the place he works out of, as it was intended originally to give an idea for Americans as to how it feels to be the outlier via having him work out of China. Then you've got someone like Mary Jane Watson. Much as I loved Zendaya's character in the Tom Holland movies, I could never get over one thing... She didn't have red hair. Sounds small, sure, but that was always a striking feature about her! She still commanded presence whenever she was on screen and talking, but in a different way that I was fond of, so she still stuck true to the character itself, but the lack of red hair always bothered me as a fan. so then we go back to Amber. None of her features were particularly striking and nothing ever was super important in regards to her race/culture, so there's really no issue in changing her race... specially since it wasn't shoved down our throats every 5 seconds.

From season 1 to season 2 writers did a great job with Amber

FINALLY. The most positive moment in the entire damn season. Now we can move on to better, brighter things.

Break up was fine, but NOBODY cares about amber because of how bad they ruined her character last season. Glad it’s finally done with though

If she wasn't in season 1, she'd be a pretty good character. But she was, and being good here doesn't absolve those decisions.

WHERE WAS THIS WRITING IN SEASON 1! Imagine all the hate Amber could avoid, if she acted like THIS during THAT scene!

Genuinely glad they wrote this break up to make sense. Honestly the comic book breakup never sat right with me.

FINALLY. :D Mark and Eve forever (literally, both immortal). :)
@kaneidareyue77155 күн бұрын
She went from sociopathic in Season 1 to kind of supporting girlfriend, but still can't get over the fact that she played Mark and gaslighted him throughout the entire Season 1. Amber in the comics was so much better.

Man the writers doubled back hard on Amber and Rex's characters. I wonder how much of it was planned character development and how much was correcting a mistake.

she just said "you can't punch your way out of everything" and then when threatend by someone who REALLY punches their way through everything she just drops him in my book that's cold, but I mean she does have a point, those are risks, and she simply doesn't love him enough

She was never gonna be in this for the long haul. She couldn’t handle it and tried to stay with him despite knowing the truth. Everything was about her needs and wants from the start. She should’ve left if she wasn’t going to accept what comes with being with Mark.
