I made my initial comment before listening to the podcast. But after listening I realized that Blundell is a rare breed. In a society where everyone is driven by selfish pursuit of materialistic success, where stepping on your brother's neck to achieve is praised as killer instinct, Mark Blundell managed to keep his light and remained a good human being. No matter how much you try you only achieve within the bounds of what was written.

Rory Byrne - absolute must for Beyond the Grid! Just imagine his stories about the B194, B195, F1-2000, F2001, F2002 and F2004! And about his work with Ross Brawn and Schumacher! Not to mention his stories about two of todays greatest engineers who were his "pupils" - Aldo Costa and James Allison!

Another great interview, great work! I think I enjoyed the Mario Andretti interview the most and he had a great quote that I will always remember. When he spoke about his grandsons and the fact that they had not done well when it came to F1, he said "no one had to push me" I love that! I expect they wanted more help from Dad and Grand Dad. Keep up the great work Tom!

Love these podcast, but one technical comment: 50 frames per second video is waste of resources here (encoding time, file upload/stream size), using 1 fps would be better if possible with just the same result. Btw, I remember Mark from CART, he was doing pretty well there IMHO, plus terrible crash in Rio. And one crazy out-of-fuel DNF with teammate Gugelmin in Detroit I think from 1st position a few corners from finish, yaargh.

Great interview and a real 'what if'? Fact is there are so many stories like this and in the case of Damon, he was a great example of a guy who absolutely stepped up and as the level of difficulty increased it brought out the best in him. Who knows what would have happened with someone else in the Williams during that period? Looking at a guy like Frentzen for example, a driver who had a much better lower category pedigree than Damon, it almost broke him!

This is very valuable and inspirational for the people out there who are used to coming not first, not second or even third, but fourth, fifth, sixth, etc. Keep your head up and believe in yourself. You can't control everything, you just have to trust you will end up where you are supposed to be and just enjoy the process. (P.S. not talking about racing)

Tom is very Anti Nelson Piquet and I hate him for that as I am a hugeeeeeeeeeeeee Piquet fan. Tom has a fixation with Senna and its cringeworthy. Jean Alesi talks about how good Nelson Piquet was to him and Tom asks about Senna... Gordan Murray rates Piquet as the best he ever worked with and Tom fixates on his deceased lover. Tom Clarkson is typical of the quality of journalists that Britain produces.

@@michaelpashut1696 Really? I didn't know about that. I'm a Brazilian born in 1986 and I would love to hear more about Nelson Piquet's career as my father is also a big fan of him and I love F1. There are a lot of stuff about Senna and Fittipaldi, but unfortunately not about Nelson. I was lucky enough to see him at Interlagos in 2011 with the Brabham of his 1st title. I hope there will be some more for its 40th anniversary next year. And it's a pity if we don't get to listen to Nelson on Beyond the Grid. Cheers!

0.75 playback speed might help. He says the Yamaha was "behind the 8 ball in performance and weight and dimensional size for packaging, so you know you jump from a Renault powered car which was just 2000 rpm and linear when you got on the throttle......... just a different kettle of fish, Yamaha was kind of like a light switch, on, off. All these things affect the balance of the car......"
