Much has changed since the 1980s. Much of the public lives on thin ice these days. Their cultural and economic stability has been sold off for stable profit "growth", to national and international elite benefit. And that "growth" comes from gouging the public, ever more.
@needmorecowbell6895
@needmorecowbell6895 4 жыл бұрын
@@buzoff4642 It's not just that, but inflation was the demon of the 80s. We've injected $3.5T into the economy and put a floor under securities so that investors get a risk premium on their capital without being exposed to loss. The result is a soaring stock market, huge unemployment, and not a whiff of inflation. That wasn't supposed to be possible under supply side economics. Supply is supposed to create it's own demand, but who wants an economy airline ticket right now and we are pumping money through a fire house to stimulate demand. You would expect stagflation from supply shock with all that money supply entering the system.

back around 1900, the stink arising in some states from corruption and incompetence led to establishing new constitutions in the states with the features of democracy: administration under referendum, initiative and recall. this was real 'progressive movement.' no relation to current progressives. it could be done in the federal sphere, if there were sufficient 'citizen' quality voters. but i think that is not the case. the solution for individuals is emigration. hard to find a suitable choice, that will have you. you could emigrate in place with subsistence farming. or drink a lot.

Eg if Elephants destroy 2 much vegetation then deer suffer so big cats suffer etc ie dominance is the problem and we seek to find equalibrium. Always. Our problem is a very few wealthy people r pulling the strings of the billions of souls. Eg US citizens, because of their gov't/media aka corporate policy r blamed 4 the proliferation of wars and death in - 2 name 5: Syria, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq (As U know, 3 wars were aided by troops instructed by Obama/Biden/Clinton and 2nd 2 by George W Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld ie Repubs and Dems r same).

i mean yeah, republicans are overwhelmingly wealthy. why have people forgotten this?
@mirmalchik
@mirmalchik 4 жыл бұрын
@Joakim von Anka I mean, is that really so far-fetched, when the purpose of the Republican party is basically to lower taxes and defend private property at any cost? "Republican candidates gain a significantly higher percentage of votes from individuals with incomes over $50,000 per year, and the advantage increases along with the income level, to a height of 63 percent of individuals earning $200,000 or more a year supporting Republicans." www.debt.org/faqs/americans-in-debt/economic-demographics-republicans/ And, yes, the US as a whole is the wealthiest country in the world, but that doesn't mean we lack a class of working poor unable to afford health services or nutritious food. Who overwhelmingly support Democrats despite their neoliberal turn in the 90's. And it's a small point, but it's not "50% of Americans who lean Republican." On top of needing the electoral college to win general presidential elections because the popular vote is out of their grasp, the Republican party has waged a nationwide campaign of vote suppression, effectively since the signing of the Voting Rights Act in the 60's "lost [the Democratic Party] the South," in the words of LBJ. And if you go to Page 10 of this study, you'll see some charts that show how Congress, regardless of the party controlling it, overwhelming votes based on the whims of the wealthiest 10% of US citizens while almost completely ignoring the rest of us, implying that that the public perception of Democrats as allies of the poor is currently mistaken, until the Squad takes over and Shahid Buttar ousts Pelosi and all that. scholar.princeton.edu/sites/default/files/mgilens/files/gilens_and_page_2014_-testing_theories_of_american_politics.doc.pdf

I can tell you that almost none of those people had automatic weapons. As a private citizen, you have to be extremely wealthy to own one in America. Either a licensed SOT to get modern ones or wealthy enough to afford vintage ones (pre-assault ban). The regulations and costs around owing an automatic weapon are so strenuous in the US, the only people that have large numbers of them are governments (military & SWAT police) or organized crime. Both of which wouldn't be participating in these protests.

11:00 Nah, don't agree. Poland, where there is very low trust in government and between people, the infection and death rates are much, much lower than in countries west of Poland. On the other hand, the Polish government did the same things on the same days as New Zealand, and on the whole people followed the restrictions, but far less strictly than in NZ. The same catastrophe in rest homes for the elderly, lack of PPE in hospitals as say, in Canada. The figures may also be falsified, because (a) testing has been very low, and deaths are ascribed to CORVID-19 only if tested positive before death, and (b) National Leader Jarosław Kaczyński is desperate to have the presidential election in early May because polls are adamant that his guy will win easily then, but lose afterward as the government is forced to impose severe austerity in depression conditions.

one can hope that the descamisados will take the free time of unemployment, the unease of no health insurance, and incentive of starvation to begin small scale rebellion. indistinguishable from vandalism at first, but the collapse of effective police response will encourage mob action. unorganized rebellion cannot succeed, but eventually the military will join in, and decide this matter cannot be left to politicians of modern quality. who will be the captain-general de la usa? very entertaining when viewed from a distance.

I like the show better when you were doing it Dan. You could be just as neoliberal/credentialist/ as Carrie, but if it you are, then you hide it better. you make a far better foil, I find listening to the podcast you ran last time much more interesting and informative due to the way you questioned and challenged Mark.

I love you guys, but "hes not a word smith" is the best you can say about Biden? He forgets where he is and every time he speaks it turns into nonsensical word salad. Your bias is nauseating when it comes to politics. I expect that from CNN, MSNBC, and FOX, but not you guys. Do better.

well that was unhelpful. really? okay so if somebody doesn't want to publicly insult someone, regardless of the reason, you have a problem with this? I got to be honest it speaks volumes about you!

I normally liked Mark, but it seems he's slowly fallen for all the annoying left digs and falacies. Trump does not need to blame the states for the economy, people don't elect on blame- ALl he needs to do is say: of, trouble is now over and we need a to grow the economy, for the good of us and the world. So who do you think can do it? me? or the dems? ever saw a dem do anything like i accomplished?
