I believe he was competing Garth Brooks at the time. When he was on the garth brooks channel on Sirius, he mentions the same thing. That they were so busy trying to make it out there that people like Mark were kind of lost in his dust! He did say he thought Mark Chesnutt was one of the greatest singers that was appreciated enough!

xShadowWolf44x Believe as much of this as you want but I couldn't make it up. I was in school at the University of KY and writing and doing demos for the publisher of "The Gambler" who was also the writer of "Brother Jukebox." Chesnutt was interested very interested in one of my songs but a new fellow I'd never heard of had it on hold. This new fellow, Tracy Lawrence, recorded the song but it didn't make it on the record. Such was my brush with songwriting success, almost by accident because I hadn't pursued it in a meaningful way. I did later pursue it but never came this close again. I got, you know, the Del Reeves cuts and the like and perhaps got things on hold (which can be meaningless) but nothing like that.

I was in the green room at the oil palace in Tyler TX his bus had burned up on the way to the show earlier that week. Mark played this song and ask " What do ya think " I said that's one of my favorite Hank Jr songs. His jaw dropped and said Not many people know that. This quickly became my favorite version. Man did we have fun back in those days. Mark like to have fun. I got to hang out with him in those early days I was competing in the rodeo and he was booked at them or at a club in the same town. This song was one of many masterpieces that came out while I was growing up. The early 90's were the pinnacle of country music. It's disgraceful what it has become today. I can listen to this again and again and it is just as amazing as the first time I heard it. Mark Chesnutt needs to be in the hall of fame.

. . . not everything America does is something to be proud of - but for sure there is something America can be proud of: you can be proud of the countlessly beautifully voices of your singers - particulary in your country music! It´s unbelievable! Thank you and greetings from Germany

. . . what should Germany change, that the world has nothing to complain? Interested in what America should change? Almost everything! But first of all: leave our country! We are now more than 70 years under the control of America and military occupied by the American Army! Not Russia is the biggest aggressor - America is!

My girlfriend and I were in a semi 18 wheeler going thru Longview, tx on our way to coffee ville Kansas to pick up a load and broke down, wreaker truck operator towed my truck to Caterpillar in Longview where we had to sit over the weekend and just before Mark became popular he played at some honkytonk bar and the operator and his wife picked us up at the hotel and brought us with them to see Mark...what a great show, cant remember the operators name, but we had such a great time
