Absolutely true mate. No matter which team the player is from no one deserves an injury like that. I hope he gets well and comes back on the pitch soon. Lad just got into the playing 11 this season and that's a horrible injury. Really unfortunate but he is very strong mentally so hoping to see him back on the pitch.

Referee decisions are meant to be determined on the actions not the consequences. The questions are, is it a red card tackle? No. Is it malicious intent? No. Regardless of who the player is, the outcome of any action a player makes (on the field) shouldn't come into a factor of the punishment.

@@wayne90079 It's not called pragmatism, it's called lunacy. The referee can't just decide not to bother his hole sending a player off just because he doesn't want to. It was dangerous play, and Struijk should've been sent off. You can't just decide you're going to ignore it. If that's the kind of attitude you're going to take, why has there ever been a red card in football? Why has the ref never just wandered over to a manager and suggested he substitute him off? He hasn't, because that's bullshit. You're a lunatic.

For all the people in the comments oblivious to facts: no one's leg was broken, it was a fracture dislocation of the ankle. Also a freak accident where no red should have been given. Very similiar to Andre Gomes vs. Spurs a few seasons ago.

Every tackle from Leeds was a "out to hurt" kind of affair in this game and the ref wasn't giving anything I remember saying they'll break someone's legs soon and 5 mins later that happened.

Struijk at full speed jumps, two feet off the floor, travels about a metre & a half through the air & lands on the back of Elliott's leg. Excessive force & endangers player. This challenge is literally defined word for word under "Serious foul play" in Law 12. Definite red card.

The way the Leeds player follows through with his right leg after knocking the ball away with his left is what makes it a red card. This is why tackles from behind are dangerous and when you do them incorrectly, it’s a red.

Ankle dislocations most of the time occur together with a fracture - Elliot’s had a fracture as well (confirmed on LFC website)

It wasn’t even a foul at first and was actually a decent tackle. Harvey elliots leg just got caught awkwardly resulting in a unfortunate injury. There’s been thousands of tackles like this that don’t do any harm this was just a rare occurrence

@@dajag6846 Harvey’s leg got caught because he essentially dangled his leg to draw a foul. The tackle was clean. Bad tackles that lead to injuries should be punished to prevent serious injuries but when an injury results from a clean tackle because players look to draw fouls it’s not fair to punish the tackler. Drawing needless fouls should also be discouraged, not looked to as a way to get free kicks or players sent off Willy Nilly.
