I saw him going over his evolution as a guitar player. It's amazing how he went from pick to fingerpick and then had the AHA moment when he developed his tone. Went from 3 fingers + thumb to 2 fingers + thumb. He said "then I became the guitar's teacher nightmare". Well, someone's nightmare is many's dream! His tone and phrasing are inimitable.

@@kjek1 part two: Note that I specifically said MK has written more great songs, not claiming who has more songs known and loved internationally. (I'd be more than able to argue that point as well, but it wasn't what I said.) David Gilmour and Pink Floyd didn't create that many great songs in their long history. I was playing Pink Floyd records on a university radio station as DJ there when they weren't even that well-known. But the actual songs can't compare in number and quality to MK's output with Dire Straits and in his longer solo career. The solo albums, at least the first five or six, contain many great songs by MK who has been an excellent songwriter for a long time.

This piece of music is simply beautiful in every way. Composition, style, passion and feeling, it’s got it all. So emotive. Just take yourself off to a remote hillside, play this in your headphones and let the tears roll. Thank you Mark Knopfler.

My goal for that response was first , you thought yourself worthy enough to judge who should be compared to whom, which obviously none of us are. Not me not you. And that too you are taking big names here. Two, it's music , so why not enjoy and why do you feel it is compulsory to let one artist down in comparison to others. Just enjoy!!

.. Sometimes I wonder why time has to go by so fast .. I was a child ... when I watched my play friend's dad on the television, you with the red headband and the red cuff ... I listened to that music that I didn't understand, but that made me so happy. I took this music with me ... I found that those notes came from a group, from a man with a name ... I took a guitar and spent hours trying to play those notes ... but to my regret I found that although the notes were (more or less) the same, the melody was completely different ... That's why I say Mark thank you for existing and thank you for everything you wrote in the past.
