On this week’s episode, Mark Regnerus joins She Thinks to help us explore the latest data showing the long-term decline in fertility, both in the U.S. and abroad. Some say that this is largely due to women choosing a career over motherhood, but does that paint the full picture? Mark and Beverly explore the many reasons why women aren’t having as many kids (or any kids at all) and what this means for them as well as for society at large.
Mark Regnerus is a professor of sociology at the University of Texas at Austin and a senior fellow at the Austin Institute for the Study of Family and Culture. The author of four books from Oxford University Press and more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals, his research and scholarly essays have appeared in media outlets as diverse as Slate and First Things.

No. It's not a question "ARE Women Choosing Careers Over Marriage and Children?" but a statement and a fact "Women ARE Choosing Careers Over Marriage and Children" This can be solved by 1) banning contraception 2) banning abortions 3) 2 years paid maternity/paternity leave 4) free childcare 5) limit female placements at university 6) reduce female wages 7) ban females working full-time but enforce family friendly workplaces. I'm 52, same age as the guest speaker. I can tell you in our day, you found a boyfriend/girlfriend easily through 1) high school 2) university 3) work 4) hobbies 5) family 6) friends 7) Church. There was no such a word as "talking". Once you reached the second date, you were already boyfriend/girlfriend. There was no "I'll wait and see what other options turn up, we're just talking." No! You were "dating"!!! If things were difficult, you worked it out, because there wasn't anyone else coming along soon to do that with. Guys were also much more willing to commit long-term and for marriage pretty quickly too. We just wanted to get on with our lives. High school, university, marriage, home, kids. That was the only available trajectory available and that's all we all wanted too. I can feel the speaker's frustration and disbelief at the modern world of dating. I think he's trying to be as respectful and tactful as possible, but I think he wants to say a lot more that is really on his mind about what he really thinks!
