Every pro skateboarder is an inspiration, but personally, as a college student, Mark has a special place in my heart haha. I mean, pausing your career after turning pro to go to school it's amazing. I was a sophomore at the University when I read an interview where he was sharing about his school life. At that time, I was going through a lot, could barely skate and college life was very time-consuming that couldn't find a balance in my personal life. But after that interview, I felt highly motivated to continue and finish my degree. Thanks for the inspiration, Mark!

I'm still not understanding the concept of why it's so significant. I mean I know Eldy ragged on it as a last trick on their review. But honestly I kinda flaked for the first mention of the meaning behind it all and been watching forever waiting for them to break it down again but they just keep talking about how he created a riddle and masterful puzzle and whatnot but not enough info for me to grasp it was without an attentive rewatch. What was he trying to convey? Some sort of twisty visa vesra complex line scenario or something? Wtf am I missing here 😂

@@justinollis2329 he says its an artwork to him, and art is up to anyone looking to at it interpret. Mark said in a different interview he didnt want them to be exact mirrors (switch then regs), and it seems he thought a lot about how each one mirrors the other. He switches up the side of the ledge, the side of his spin, the stance he's riding in, etc etc all in different ways for each "mirror". My own interpretation is that its a statement about tech skating, and how there are endless ways to create complexity out of the same trick and grind

We learn about colonization of the Americas, Some pre-colonial anglo/spanish/roman/greek history, Enlightenment, World Wars, Egypt, Sumeria, Aztec/Maya, etc. Typical broad K-12 non-specified education. But, yes most of the "history" we learn outside of that is just Civics/Government which is obviously US specific. As it should be. Less general world history is for your own time / university. Also since Roman and US civics in so unique, there's really no reason to learn anything else. We have the most progressive liberal government that has been copied the world over. The US constitution is like the blueprint for 100+ country's democratic revisions. Half the European countries that exist right now are younger than the US anyway. I love the 50-50 simply because of the provocation and lack of flexibility it revealed within the culture. Folks lost their shit and over-analyzed it and basically revealed their aversion to something playful. To me that's both hilarious and powerful, even if Suciu didn't have a structural plan.

I just thought SJ locals were rippers and just turned out he was on the path to be a top pro. Always dope to see young pros before they blow up.

grew up skating around mark, from campbell, CA. (down the street from saratoga. saratoga is a lot of old money/foreign wealthy families, where the some of the wealthiest people live in the south bay area.) he was an older kid we looked up to. i remember he could switch tre into this bank at sunnyvale every try when i was like first learning how to ollie. i remember i had this enjoi 7.5 board and i had gripped my board for the first time in my life and i did like a really trash job. and mark was like who did you let grip your board. and i like had to lie and say it was the guy at the skate shop because i felt so ashamed lol. and he's like they need to fire that guy from the skate shop or something lol. i was like 13 i think mark was like 15. him and this kid david used to be at sunnyvale park like every day and wearing es' beanies and es' accels and baggy jeans and we were like woah those kids are crazy, on some totally other shit. i barely knew shit about skating industry then i think this was like 2007ish, i briefly remember seeing mark rock lakais and maybe like the first nike sb blazer lows around this time, before the adidas stuff. i remember he would get super angry if he messed up on a trick but everyone stayed the fuck out of his way and didn't ever say shit because he was always like the best one at the park. also there was this other kid, who kicked it around the same time at the park. who was european like barely talked but he ripped, and he was flo for popwar and volcom, and he kinda had a similar energy to mark where he landed a lot of tricks really clean slightly more lanky style, and consistent, but never knew that kids name we just called him popwar kid. and i used to trip on that other kid tho because he was really good but i would see him skate street around town in campbell sometimes, and nobody, or no good skaters at least, had really ever skated in campbell anymore since the tilt mode days (Jerry Hsu, Louie Barletta, Jesse Erickson) and before that its like salman agah/simon woodstock days, because most the spots are bust now and the vibe is wack, normally people just go to downtown san jose and like skate chavez now, or skate the parks. also fun fact cab is from this area and was discovered by Stacy Peralta, down the street from where my mom grew up, at winchester skatepark in the late 70's.

Pretty crazy well not really but like how he explained his father had to get out of Romania and how when mark said about his grades like oh I suck at that so whatever. When in his dads view was like why you can get better or learn it. It shows in marks skating. The way he is so well rounded his trick selection. Actually breaking things down instead of just a well whatever mind set

27:51 - Autofocus was first invented in 1960 by a research team at Leica to the best of my understanding. 1977 was the first mass produced autofocus camera, but the technology existed for almost two decades before that. I don't think his dad "invented autofocus" so much as maybe improved on a concept that already existed.
