Detroit River Watch Webcam - The Dossin Great Lakes Museum provides a unique service to the maritime community.
The "Detroit RiverCam" brings passing lake and ocean freighters, motor and sailboats, and even the rowing shells to the home and office desktops of boat watching enthusiasts around the world.

The camera will operate on a Tour of Presets until a ship passes. At that time if an operator is available they will pan and zoom the camera. The camera has a directional microphone that sometime picks up the camera's motors or wind noise.
Please use your Browser's volume control to adjust the level to your liking. The camera is mounted 60 feet above the river with no protection from the wind. Vibration will occasionally over power the image stabilization and cause the image to shake.

I think I saw her in port at Cleveland just last week, loading! Great seamanship on the part of the Great Lakes Towing crew for getting her off so quickly, and for the quick actions of her Captain handling the sudden loss of power. It’ll be interesting to see what caused it, perhaps an automatic shutdown after some component failure (cooling?). Sort of worrying to see the newest ship on the lakes in trouble, but glad there is no pollution or loss of Iife at least. I suppose some kind of mishap had to happen at some point in her career. I wonder how many minor run ins Alpena has had in her long and illustrious career. She’s such a beautiful old ship and I sort of hope when she retires she is preserved!

Ha ha ...After more than a few years experience in the trades I have learned this fact....Things tend to beak down when they are new, and also when they are really old, but mainly when they are new!

That’s a ridiculous thing to imagine. This is simply a hiccup in a brand new vessel. She was backing up under her own power and anchored in the middle of the Detroit River to find out if she should proceed. That’s all, Jon. Stop inserting negative crap.

Looks as if the Pennsylvania has everything under control. When she came into view around 8:00 I was instantly transported back to my childhood, and my mother tirelessly reading Little Toot to me at every bedtime, 1940s. I guess tug boats are timeless in a way.

The convayor in the front looks a bit too hight for a good view from the Wheel house, but stiil it a result of power loss. To new and to modern for these kind of problems in my mind. But doesn't looks to bad. Get out of the way and let the old lady go pass hehe.

It must be a power issue , or they would be using their bow thruster to move the bow to the starboard. Also the main engine could have backed her back into the main channel.

Her main engine evidently is operating as there were definete wakes from the stern and there were visible wakes from the bow thrusters.

The ship lost power. I wonder if DTE was involved in the power outage? This beast looks like the Edmond Fitzgerald. The song by Gordon Lightfoot, "The Wreck of The Edmond Fitzgerald" should be playing in the background instead of us hearing the wind in the microphone 🎤 of this video.
