I wonder if the guy in the rowboat was getting hazardous duty pay to get up alongside those freighters in that rowboat

Growing up my friends and I would ride our bikes down to Riverside Park and watch the JW Wescott deliver the mail to the ship's. Great video thank you.

Awesome history, thank you very much. Sure would not of wanted to be the guy in the row boat? He earned his money as all of the older generation did. Thank you again.

So she was over loaded, beat up badly in need of major repairs, pushing hard in following seas, lost his radar completelyblown off the ship, lost half of his communication antennas, 2 vents gone, starboard rail was down, caught in possibly the worst storm ever on Lake Superior, was way to close to 6 fathom soal, using charts from 1919, and hit by 2 Rouge waves in succession, (those two wave were the tallest Bernie had ever seen. The timing from those lifting his stern nearly out of the water and hitting the Fitz was the exact time to put her out of sight and off the radar)😮 taking on water with only one pump running for unknown reason! Dont forget the way those pellets are shaped easily could have plugged half of the screen on the old style pump inlets on the Fitzgerald. Could that be why only one pump was pumping out water that night? If you think it was aliens, some triangle, or any other supernatural reason she went down instantl my friends, look again. The captain was in a hurry due to his wifes being admitted into a nursing home the day before, and it was the last unscheduled run of the year. He was known to have pushed her hard, setting various records and had several collisions during his time a master of the Fitz. To me its obvious and it should be to you as well what sank the Mighty Pride of the fleet, like so manybyimes when something like this happens it a combination of several things, not just one that make it happen. But if hed have slowed down staying closer to Bernie Coppers ship, with sight and his radar, Mc Sorely wouldnt have been pushed up north to close to the shoals, breaking her keel on those rocks and there by causing the water to flood the cargo holds. That was the reason the Fitz took the nose dive, hitting the bottom, cracking in half when it hit driving the bow over 20 feet into the lake bed. She just couldnt float any longer! Gordon lightfoots song will immortalize the Fitzgerald forever, its haunting and a appropriate send off. R.I.P. All those who went down on the Great lakes.

Now that's how you get it done. Between the civilians and boat crew, that boat was underway in less than two minutes from the time he hit the water. Back at the dock seven minutes after he splashed. 👏👏👏
