@@krishnansen1301 I imagine he refers to before they came to F1 perhaps. Since they were in Renault junior team, they raced together and he kicked Fernando's ass. Same equipment, unlike F1, so more legit
@FluppiLP
@FluppiLP 3 жыл бұрын
@@indianajons5847 not necessarily more legit. Driving comes down to a lot more than just equipment because it is such a top level sport. It's important that the handling of the car fits the driving style. Just look at Gasly and Albon, do you really think that they became bad drivers when switching to RB and as soon as Gasly is back in the alpha tauri he suddenly gets a podium simply by luck? Both didn't trust their car at RB and it's visible in the lap time. If you are stuck in a spec series then it's quite difficult to change the car to suit your driving style because you can't redesign the car. Also: I don't think both were at their peak in the Renault junior team. It's possible that Alonso just needed longer to mature and develop his driving style. Unfortunately it is impossible to rank drivers consistently because there are way too many factors we can't see. And this doesn't answer the most important question: How important is driving fast compared to being a complete racing driver? Schumacher won 7 titles by working hard and setting new standards. He was also gifted but was he always the best driver during his championship winning seasons? Possibly not, but his work ethic was beyond what anyone else in the grid could do. A similar thing goes for Vettel as Webber points out in this podcast who wasn't necessarily the fastest driver but he was working harder than Webber. So if you are the fastest drivers, are you atuomatically the best driver? For me that's a clear no. Racing drivers have to do more than just drive.

I see alot of people saying Webber is wrong about pole at 43 because Michael did it. Well it's wrong isn't it, Michael qualified 6th due to 5 place drop from rear ending Bruno Senna, from a total schoolboy error. It totally showed his flaws and his slower reactions due to not being what he was, he'd never have had that crash at his peak. So for me, webber is right. It was a stunner of a lap at Monaco don't get me wrong, but a 2001 Schumacher would have taken pole, and kept pole! So the fact it was taken because of his a mishap at the race before, is highly relevant!! We can't hold back the clock, and Michael was no different.
