Marketplace insurance is part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) sometimes known as Obamacare. It was designed as a way to offer comprehensive health care at affordable rates. Marketplace insurance is a great way to purchase coverage if you are self-employed or unemployed. One of the central conceits of the Affordable Care Act is that all health insurance plans must offer essential benefits. You can find a full list of essential benefits here: www.healthcare.gov/coverage/p...
You are able to enroll in Marketplace Insurance every year during the annual open enrollment period. The Open Enrollment Period is November 1st- January 15th. Coverage begins on January 1st. You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you’ve undergone certain life events. Dependent upon your Special Enrollment Period type, you may have 60 days before or 60 days after the event to enroll in a plan. If you miss your Special Enrollment Period window, you may have to wait until the next Open Enrollment Period to apply.
There are multiple ways in which you can enroll. You can:
Use an Agent
Use a Broker
Call Healthcare.gov
Use the Healthchare.gov website
First, you may call an agent. An agent is a representative of a particular carrier (insurance company). An agent will only present you with their company’s available plan. You will not receive any type of special discount or avoid fees by working directly with an agent.
You may also call a broker. A broker works for you not the insurance company. They will help you compare multiple plans offered by multiple carriers. You will not be charged any type of additional fee by working with a broker. This is why working with a broker is our number one recommendation. If you’d like assistance, you can reach us at iHealthBrokers at 888-410-0344.
Next, you may call Healthcare.gov directly. A call center representative can describe all available plans, help you compare them by price and features, and finish your enrollment by phone. Call 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).
Finally, you may use the website: healthcare.gov
If you've had insurance through your employer in the past, insurance through the Marketplace may come with a bit of sticker shock. As with any insurance plan, there are monthly premiums, out of pocket deductibles to meet and copays or coinsurance. It’s important to have a good idea of exactly what your needs are upfront so that you can pick a plan accordingly. Choosing the right plan is one way of saving money on the Marketplace.
Additionally, there are tax credits available dependent upon your income level. In order to qualify, your income must be between 100%-400% of the federal poverty guide for your household size. You may be able to lower your taxable income by contributing to a Health Savings Account (HSA). Healthcare.gov will ask you to estimate your income for the upcoming year and will price your plans accordingly. Should you make more than your estimate, you may be required to pay these tax credits back when you file.
Finally, the easiest way to save money on your health insurance is to work with a licensed broker. They will listen to your needs and find you the best possible plan at the lowest possible rate. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call at (888) 918-0518 or schedule a call today.

Can you explain "in network tier 1" & "in network tier 2"? What makes a provider or prescription tier 1 or 2? I don't see that info when I search for doctor's and meds. Love the channel!
@iHealthBrokers
@iHealthBrokers Жыл бұрын
Oh, that is a hard one because it really is up to the plan. A drug might be "tier 1" for one plan and "tier 2" for another. In network means covered. So, if you were to look on your plan's dug formulary, you should see the drug listed. Make sure to to get your prescriptions filled at an in network pharmacy! Tier 1 drugs will be less expensive than tier 2 drugs. These will usually be the generic versions, so always make sure to ask for a generic if available.Thank you for your question!

Thank you so much for this info! This clarified so many things for me :) I'm needing to enroll for 2023, and I love the thought of having a broker help me through this, but I admit that I get a little nervous when I don't know where services are getting money from. If I don't need to pay to use your services, who does pay for the service? Is there a point at which I would have to start paying money? Thanks for whatever info you can provide!!
@iHealthBrokers
@iHealthBrokers Жыл бұрын
Completely understandable. Regardless of whether you enroll in a plan with a broker, an agent, or healthcare.gov, your premium remains exactly the same. There is a commission that is already included in your premium. That will either be paid to the insurance carrier or a broker based on how you enroll. However, regardless of your method of enrollment, your premium will not increase or decrease. It remains exactly the same. That being said, ***some brokers charge an additional fee for their services. We do not. Regardless of who you choose, please make sure to do your research and read the company's reviews to ensure you are receiving 5 star service! Best of luck and thank you for your question!

I'm still confused, I am a single male in his 30's who makes about $11,000-$15,000 a year....and I saw these numbers on my Estimated Monthly Premium for plan selection and there are in the $300+ range....and I am questioning "Do I pay that $300 a month?" but I make sooooo little money....I thought Healthcare.gov was suppose to help me get very close to free healthcare? Like...$20-50 per visit, and that's that...and if I get a prescription, I pay for it. I still don't understand....I am not going to pay $300 every month for health insurrane. I pay $500 for rent, and if I end up paying $300 for health care a month....that leaves me with $100-$250 a month to spend on food, and the meds that I will get....how the heck do I save money? Minus my phone bill.....$100-$190 a month that leave me for food...wait...the bus....that leaves me about $50-$75 for food....this makes no sense....I never was on food stamps....do they want me on food stamps? I can't believe what I am seeing.....Health Insurrance is a big scam if you make very little income....it's stuff like this that make people do bad things in life to catch a break...holy crap.

Thank you for sharing this information. I have a question regarding purchasing insurance for myself and my spouse in Texas through the Marketplace. I estimated our annual income to be between 25-30 K, which might qualify us for a large rebate. However, I am wondering what will occur if our income ends up being below the minimum threshold required to qualify for the ACA rebate, such as under 15 K by the end of the year. Thanks
@iHealthBrokers
@iHealthBrokers Жыл бұрын
That is a great question. Right now many plans are available with no monthly premium due to the large premium tax credits available. If your overestimate, you may end up with a larger refund when you file your taxes. If you have an accountant you regularly work with, they may able to give you more specific guidance.

How did you get a $0 a month premium? I put in that I'm 30, in Florida and I don't have any income and the cheapest that comes up is $188.. I'm unemployed and I need therapy. Why does this have to be so damn confusing, I don't get it. Is it because I'm single with no dependants? The last time it didn't matter. Like 3 years ago my maximum premium was $30 for BCBS when I was in this situation. Just throw all this away and have medicare for all, the healthcare in this country is a complete mess and isn't even made for actually providing healthcare.

In the example in the video, I did put in dependents. Your premium tax credits is determined by your income and household size. So, while that could be a factor, if your income is $0, it seems odd that your least expensive plan is $188. Unfortunately, I can't really answer the question without seeing what's happening on your end...Could you please give us a call at 888-410-0344 or email us at support@ihealthbrokers.com? Seeing as I live in Florida where Medicaid was never expanded, I don't qualify for Medicaid and I only qualify for marketplace if I make just above poverty level (which is $13,900)... The number on the premium let’s say 392 is that for 1 person or is that price for everyone on the family plan? If it’s one per person for the family would you be paying almost 1200 per month?
@iHealthBrokers
@iHealthBrokers 8 ай бұрын
The price should be reflective of the information you put in. For example, if you entered information for just yourself, you would see the premium for one person based on the info you provided. If you entered information for a full household, the premium you would be see would be the premium for the whole family (family plan) for the month. Thanks for your question!

Will there be problems if you apply for marketplace insurance even though your company offers a health insurance which is way more expensive than the marketplace plan?
@iHealthBrokers
@iHealthBrokers Жыл бұрын
That is a great question. So under the ACA, if you have insurance that is deemed "affordable" then you would not be eligible for premium tax credits on the marketplace. In 2023, a job-based health plan is considered "affordable" if your share of the monthly premium in the lowest-cost plan offered by the employer is less than 9.12% of your household income. You can learn more here: www.healthcare.gov/glossary/affordable-coverage/ Now, that is just for an individual. many people fall into the "family glitch". Steps have been taken to address this, but it is far from perfect. We have a video about here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5x5mqaUnrTeg30.html

Hi Brian. I just saw your other message. So sorry you find yourself in this predicament. Here is my other message: Sounds like you are one of the many people who has fallen victim to the "family glitch". You can check out our video with updates on the recent "fixes" to learn more: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5x5mqaUnrTeg30.html. That being said, you would likely need to wait until the next enrollment period with your company to make changes. Try speaking to your HR department to find out when you can make those changes. At that time, you should be able to enroll your spouse in a marketplace plan through a SEP.

Unfortunately in most states being pregnant does not qualify you for a special enrollment period (although having a baby does). Marketplace enrollment is around the corner, but her coverage still would not be active until January. Short term medical plans also do not cover pregnancy. Her best options would be pregnancy medicaid offered in some states or employer group health insurance.
