If Americans wanna spend 3-4 times for a Car - perhaps better than what they make there, let them. If they wanna spend tons of money more on stuff, why stop? Blaming it on subsidies is just lame, every nation does that including US ( what's inflayoon reduction act then for?). The US inflation has risen after sanctioning Russia on export of their cheap gas ( overcapacity to spoil US gas market) due to high gas price and American consumers are paying higher price buying imported Chinese goods at higher tariffs. So American consumers will pay more to buy Chinese EV thereby increasing consumers cost of living. Eventually the American consumers will need higher salary to keep up with the increasing inflation. During the great depression era, the US increased very high tariffs on European goods but eventually the US recession still persisted. No high tariff can solve a country's economic debacle.

For example, when US puts a 100% tariff on an EV, the sale price of this solar panel should double (american importers have to front the tariff, Chinese does not own any dealership) and then consumer pays sales tax based on the sale price, so the sale tax is doubled. All these extra tax are from American to American government, academic anyway since there is no Chinese EV in North America market. Hopefully it gets Biden a few more votes in Michigan. Tesla, Ford and GM sales will drop in China for sure just like Chinese switching from Apple to Huawei to show patriotism, no tariff or sanction required.
