There's a saying in my native language "goedkoop is duurkoop", which basically translates to "buying cheap is buying expensive", and it's so true. These days I buy the best quality I can pay for, not the quality that has the best price
@gerhardbekker646

"A mistake is only a mistake if you make it twice". I really like this. Else, with something good (like investing), you will stop after having lost some money for the first time. But, in principle, it is a good thing, and you should keep at it. You just need to learn from it. For example, earlier this year I went in relatively heavy on crypto (when everybody else was as well). It then fell out of the sky... I could have stopped and said it is ridiculous to invest in it. But I really think it has potential, although it is risky. This time, I am selling when others are greedy, and I am going to buy when others are fearful. Thanks, Mr Tilbury! Your advice gets my head tikking!

For the first advice, I always knew I might buy twice when I`m buying the cheap ones. Because I know if it`s the first time I have it, I`ll probably break it due to lack of familiarity. So it`s actually a good idea do go for the cheaper ones at first and see if I really need it. Then go for a good one, or never buy again.

I find it amazing that a millionaire - who can probably quantify his time in thousands per hour - takes time off his productive day to give some tips on youtube, which probably gives him a minuscule income (meaning he just does it as a hobby or as a samaritan act!). I'm investing as much as I can. Though don't look at my moped project on my floor. Overall cost probably $1000 and I'm not even done with it. But I think it's a good investment in myself and a cheap way to move around afterward. And obviously, it's great to have something to do. After that's done I will save as much as I can and invest some more for that early retirement. Thanks for the great videos Mark!

I’m really surprised that you didn’t have the worst of them all on this list; a brand new car. Once you start making some real money in your 20s, the urge to reward yourself and join the “adults” with your own brand new car purchase, can be huge. In your 20s you likely won’t have the cash to buy a car outright, which means you’ll be financing for years and spending all your money on a super expensive object that you’ll like less and less as time goes on. Take the bus, ride a bike, drive that beat up old car that grandma sold you for $100, anything to avoid getting trapped by the purchase of a new car.

I am on the fence on a new car personally, I fully understand it is a bad financial idea, however I am treating it as me being an active guy and want a car I can occasionally sleep in and capable enough to carry my gear and get to trail heads off the beaten path. So I am still doing research and see what the best option for me personally is. Money is important, experiences are important too and I value them at the same level if I will be honest, stories to tell the grandkids and pictures to look back on fondly.

Not sure if that would be that bad (due to the situation) according to the country that You're living in. at least in the southamerican markets 2nd hand cars are really expensive right now, most of them maltreated, so You'll have to visit your mechanic quite soon. The real question is "do I really need a car?" (in my opinion.. if yes, because of work and you can get profit from it go ahead)

Hello Mark, there's a mistake in the description. This video is about worst things to buy, but the description says "best things to buy". Great content 👍

Another great one is getting a fancy car. It's easy to get lucky in the stock market, or land a larger than normal sale in your business. The last thing you want to do however, is fork it all out in a massively depreciating asset, or even worse... Finance it. Have a friend that worked and worked only to spend 75K AUD on a car. Took him 4 years to work his way up to it.

Number 5, that was my mistake. I fell into the trap of thinking that there could be a method to regularly earn through betting.... Will never bet on anything again

My first new car was a red XR2, but it was a company car earned by hitting sales targets. It may seem daft, but it was one of the proudest moments of my life. Unfortunately with the commission cheque I went out and blew most of it on a £1000 HiFi separates system. Which was a fair wedge back then. The twist is, I still have the Rotel amp and the tower speakers.

Hi Mark, I agree with investing as a safety net/ retirement strategy, but say you have all your money in shares/ index funds and then you want to take it out, you’d be paying something like 45% capital gains tax. How can this be avoided? Love the videos! Cheers.

If you invest using a Roth IRA in the USA or stocks and shared ISA in the UK then you won’t pay any taxes on your gains :) MT
