This was incredibly in depth, I'm so impressed. I've not used any of the modern Canon lineup but it looks like they have a lot of those really great modern mirrorless features - for me autofocus is one of the most important things I think. Having said that, there's just something about the look and feel of the images out of a fujifilm camera. Something that's almost intangible and hard to communicate if you've never shot one for yourself.

7:36 Canon is playing games with their 1.15x magnification, since it is only a 0.39” EVF screen, versus the X-T4 which uses a 0.50” EVF panel. So the X-T4 has an overall larger EVF, since it is 0.50” x 0.75. While the Canon has 0.39” x 1.15.

Thank you for your comparison video. I think it could be better by showing some samples, but I know is hard because you would need similar glass to make a comparison and many tests. For now I would stay in the fuji system, bigger lens selection, huge second hand market, Film simulations (i do video and they really save grading time in post-processing). I hope Canon makes similar primes to the f2 line up from fuji.

For the out of camera colours, depends what colour your back light is. Canon shows a purple while the fuji shows blue. So Which one is it?

I have a Canon EOS M200 and the same is true - if you create a custom My Menu tab, you will not be taken to the last menu setting you used in the regular menu tabs. Instead, it opens the last used My Menu tab. However, if you do not create the custom tab, pressing the menu button takes you exactly to the last thing you were setting up. I disliked it initially but soon learned that it's no problem whatsoever - I set up two custom tabs and put all the options I often change there. This turned out to be even more efficient than using the default menu screen.

I have the X-T4 and do enjoy using it, but yes - the grip is small and I eagerly await the XH2 (non-stacked, high res model) announcement next week. Sure I'd love the better Canon AF and menu system, but I hoped for more from the R7 hardware-wise, and as a hobby photographer - the good Fuji lenses are more within my price range than the good RF glass.

I am a Canon user and I work with the 90D and R5. And as you said, I thought the R7 would be more competitive than it is; including for instance a new overlapped sensor and 120fps, with autofocus, and with the option to incorporate a CF express memory card. Nevertheless, it has a really competitive price. Fuji users are very well taken care of

Great comparison Mark, thanks for that. I'm actually torn between choosing the r6 or 7 or the Sony A7 III (used market) I use it mainly for stils. I do own a Sony A7r II but it gets slow. Any advise would be great. Greetz from the Netherlands

Based on the limited, and expensive, RF lens lineup, unless someone is already a big Canon fan, I point them to Sony now. If you could push a little and get an A7IV, I think that is a tremendous camera, but A7III is still very good.

I think it depends on whether or not you have invested in one brand or the other. If I hadn't invested so much in the Canon ecosystem, I would have gone for the new Fuji and that 150-600mm lens.

Wouldn’t the Fuji and Canon have similar results when it comes to light with the sensor size making up for the aperture? Also the 16-80 would be the same as the canons in crop factor, wouldn’t it?

Other factors are more meaningful than the difference in the crop, that's why I have done a real world test, so the results can be compared.

Great comparison! These are both great tools and just like a tool you choose the one that can get the job done best for you. Canon menu, L series lenses and reliability is why I have been using canon for the last 20yrs. My experience with panasonice GH series also makes it an excellent tool as well.

I still go with the R7 all day. Feels better in hand and the AF can’t be beat. I hate that Canon isn’t playing nice with 3rd party RF lenses but if they can drop some quality reasonably priced RF-S glass, I’ll shutup

Hand grip is very subjective I’m 6’3 and a big guy and the grip issue is very odd to me when you’re holding your camera you use both hands, when you’re not it’s either strapped and if you always hold then grips are available but again that’s a subjective issue.

Not a fan boy, I own and use canon Olympus, Panasonic and have used the others. Own the r7 and have used the xt4. I am a sucker for the Fuji design and the Xt-4 is a beauty. They are both amazing. The ibis on the Fuji was “ interesting “ ….sci fi warp. The Fuji was twice the price used. Decision was made for me. Would be happy either way.

If you do any type of vlogging that requires using wide angle lenses with ibis activated, the Fuji is unusable due to issue with ibis and extreme warping/wobbles at the edges. Something that the canon ibis has no issues with at all. Dyor

Fuji always beats anything RF mount when it comes to lenses. Those inexpensive RF primes have a focus element that protrudes out the front of the lens. If your not shooting super expensive L glass canon is not worth it. People mention these r cameras for video. However canon removed the histogram from video.

Rubbish! Fuji is so overrated it's laughable. The trio of Sigma 1.4 lenses introduced to Fuji cameras out-performed their closest Fuji counterparts, but couldn't match the EF-m 32mm 1.4. The 32mm 1.4 is nothing compared to many FF lenses, even Sigma Art lenses. Sigma Art of the R7 are better than Fuji lenses on the X-T4.

The XT-4 is better all-around. The dials make it a beautiful analog-looking camera in the digital age. It's beautiful. I am a Canon EF-M user, and I'm not going to keep acquiring gear. But I can be honest and admit that I should have gone with Fujifilm's APS-C X mount cameras for optimal JPEG output and video performance. For anyone who is yet to choose a system for stills, videos and vlogging, I endorse Fujifilm X.

The dials are for retro fanboys and useless for anyone who works fast and wants to change settings without needing complete shifts of hand position. Most brands dropped that cumbersome top dial layout in the film days and thank goodness they did. I'd never go back to that.

Love the dials on the Fuji but they’re always a point of mechanical failure for Fuji Cameras. where from experience I’ve never experienced w Canon. Where on my Fuji the dials look pristine but upon pressing on it it jumps to a different mode. Very disappointing for something supposedly so robust. Plus It happened again too a few months after getting it serviced so I gave up on Fuji.

Looking at Fuji and can't decide which camera to use from them professionally. The XS lines don't cut it, the XT line is almost there but still pushes users towards the XH line especially as of now in 2023

@@markwiemels I have the XS10, that's because I didn't know anything about Fuji when I bought it second hand (coming from Canon DSLR). While the camera is able to produce stunning images with the right glass I do wish I would have waited until the XT5 release to get the XT4 cheaper (second hand), I do need weather sealing and dual card slots. Besides size for me is not a factor when I use huge prime lenses most of the time. With that being said I would be hesitant to show up to a paid gig with the XS

@@markwiemels You were lucky to find one, in my country these cameras are rare because most users tend to hang on to them until they become completely obsolete. Heck I even know a photojournalist in my area who still uses an XT3 and doesn't see a reason to upgrade yet

No, the X-T4 is their most important camera and a huge portion of their sales, I’m sure they are still making and selling it. I think the X-T3 is being discontinued.

@@palaneproductions7357 In the long term, I think it's bad for Canon, and Canon owners, fewer lens options and lack of competition. This will just drive more users to Sony. I also don't see them making good RF-S Lenses either, which could be filled by 3rd parties like they have on the EF-M mount.

Metal in hands feels 100% better, but regarding durability, carbon fiber composed in Canon's cameras is stronger for sure, you can't even scratch it (once i tried it, and result was scratched pebble).

I think the R7 is some sort of plastic, the bottom of mine started to loose its textured coating (on the bottom of the camera) within days of use. I can not find any info on what the body is made of.

@@markwiemels I don't know how about R7, but i had 600d and still have 80d, and these models are partially made from carbon, on my 80d i have same problem with scratched coating, but it is just on the screen frame (around screen on inner side(especially bottom of frame), the outer side of display part is perfect without scratchs, like rest of body, i suppose that frame around display is made from different material), i don't know how is made R7, but if is made analogously like older models, it could be the same.

Mostly a spec review only...a few examples are shown. Most of the review is about the video capabilities there is only a brief mention about the still capabilities. At the end he says that Fuji lenses are better than Canon lenses. I guess if you consider the APC lenses ONLY this would be correct...however Canon's RF lens line up is superior to ANY other brand and they look amazing on the R7. Pus the auto focus system for Canon is FAR superior to the Fuji and this is HUGE.

This was my real world experience. When it comes to “photo capability” very little has change in any of the cameras in recent years, in fact, you can’t tell the photos apart between most modern cameras. A few more frames per second, and that’s about it. When it comes to lenses, the limited number of available RF lenses are very good, but there are plenty of other lenses that are just as good, and far more affordable, especially for aps-c. To match the quality of a Fuji lens, on the RF mount, you will be getting a full frame lens and paying double the price, or more, and lugging around a bigger lens than you need.

@@markwiemels There are 19 RF and RF-S lenses so far (many more on the way) and if you consider that all canon EF lenses can be adapted easily that brings the total to almost 100 lenses that can be used with the R7...I would say that is a substantial amount of Canon glass that can be used with the R7. When I talk about real world experience I was talking about examples...you provided one video example and no side by side still examples, or any still examples for that matter. Plus, the Canon sensor is a 32.5 MP sensor vs a 26.1 and I do think that is significant. And I have to come back to the auto focus....the canon auto focus system is superior. Just giving you my thoughts...you like the Fuji that's fine. I will say its hard to find a comparison on these two cameras.

@@mikedavis5099 With high MP Sensors, comparison photos will only highlight the quality of the lens, not the camera and the sensor, so photo samples between different camera systems are misleading. Video samples are useful as they are only 8MP, and the quality is highly determined by the way the camera processes the files. Most the 100's of Canon lenses will not resolve 32.5 mp throughout their focal and aperture range. I think it's fine that you prefer the Canon, I like them both, but you are trying to roll out facts here without a deeper understanding of how any of this really works. You also keep talking about the autofocus, which I clearly state that it is far superior to the fuji in this video. In this video I do not conclude that one is better than the other, I just share the facts and my real world experience using both cameras side by side. I own both cameras, and I wouldn't own them both if I didn't think they were both very good.

@@markwiemels So, you stated that there were just a few lenses available for the R7 and then I point out that there are 19 RF lenses (many more to come ) and that all of the EF lenses could be used (with adapter). Rather than address this point (on the merits of availability) you chose to make it personal by saying I was “roll (ing) out facts without a deeper understanding of how any of this really works.” I have been shooting professionally for over 35 years; I know how “this works.” The “sweet’ part of any lens is the center. So, when you use the cropped portion of a lens you get little to no coma, chromatic aberration, vignetting and such. When you say that Canon lenses will not resolve the 32.5 MP you are probably talking about the theory of perceptual mega pixel rating (referring to the actual amount of mega pixels you actually see in an image) However, it still holds that a higher mp sensor (with all variables being equal) will produce more “perceptual megapixels.” I am more of a still photographer who does video…so the reason I keep talking about the auto focus is because it is such a huge advantage over the Fuji…so much so that is it is as you say (the still images are indistinguishable) then the R7 is easily a better camera choice. That’s it …I won’t spend any more time on this…I wish you well. Please be careful with your assumptions in the future.

Love Fuji.. but it’s 2022 and Fuji still can’t autofocus reliably in video. . Lovely for photos tho. Still autofocus tracking on the fuuge for photos isn’t great either. I own the r7 and I’ve used the x t4. R7 autofocus tracking in video and photo is night and day better. Pros and cons as always.. readout speed on the r7 sensor is crap. E shutter can produce some… interesting looking animals..

The R7 had the potential to be a serious challenge to Fuji - sure, you get the great Canon AF system - but the rest of the camera feels like a collection of spare parts they had lying around.

In the hand the R7 is a bit better than that, but I also wouldn't say it's specifically better than the X-T4, which is an older camera now.

@@markwiemels Mostly I meant the internals - it looks great and the software has that good Canon AF and menu, but the clacky mechanical shutter and slow, non-BSI sensor are a bit of a let-down.

AF in video is still a new kind of technology. No real professional uses AF in video. That’s why Sony is the better option. Fujis users don’t usually use AF since Cini lenses don’t use AF hence why all those lenses are all manual focus. Don’t rely on AF for video yet. It’s a marketing tactic for most people.

And to think the X-T4 got released 2 years before the R7, if only fuji could get better at autofocus ^^ but even the Xh2S isn't that great at AF, i mean it's better than the X-T4's but it still look inferior to sony's or canon's... and that's on a 2749€ camera -_-

The kit lens with the RF looks cheap, and the R7 has plastic outers compared tp the Fuji's metal skin, but do keep in mind that the Fuji is considerably more expensive than the Canon.

I'm curious why KZfaqrs tout CIPA battery ratings when we all know they're BS. I bought an R7 3 weeks ago. I've never run a battery flat in one session. I've shot over 1200 shots with the battery still on half, several times. The lowest it has ever been is half battery at 700+ shots (walking around the whole time with the camera left on). Even my RP averages 1300+ shots per charge, not the nonsense CIPA rating.

It's kind of like mpg, isn't it? Your results may vary. Sometimes, especially when photographing birds, I'll use the camera for hours as a spotting scope, just watching, taking a burst here and there. In such cases I may only get 100 shots out of a charge, running the battery down using the EVF. In other cases, blasting away at FOX kits playing for example, I may get thousands. Just like mpg, the published numbers just give you a way to compare. They aren't meant to be hard numbers.

fuji focus SUCKS.... get the Canon. Fuji is a metal brick. Canon uses expensive exotic metals and molecular complex matrix plastic fantastic. Fuji uses rusting iron metal.

Canon user experience is great, and easy. The Fuji is magnesium alloy, the Canon is plastic, good plastic, but still plastic, I'm sure they to this to keep the costs down, not because it's better.

You must be a Canon "FANBOY" ... your video is so inaccurate it made me laugh. Can the R7 shoot 4k60fps at 400mps? No! Can you attach an audio interface on the hot shoe? No! The Canon only has TWO RF lenses available for APS-C. The Fujifilm X-T4.. when correctly set does not hunt. The Fujifilm X-T4 shoots 4.2.2. The Fujifilm can take custom color film Simulations. The Canon R7 can not be professional color matched. R709 is old technology. The Fujifilm X-T4 can do 240fps. Canon R7 colors are inaccurate, blues tend to show up magenta ot purple. Mostly with LED lights. You really don't know what you are talking about.

I covered all of this, the 60fps, the bit rates, the better lenses, 240fps, I said I think the X-T4 is better for video from the start of the video. BTW, X-T4 does 4:2:0 internal, only does 4:2:2 with external recorder, and the Fuji Autofocus for video is unreliable, in even a remotely complicated scene it can't really cope, you can't trust it, also has no tracking autofocus for video, which in 2022 is pretty poor. Why make an ignorant comment like this, without even watching the video.

@@markwiemels I have 2 X-T4 s and the new X-H2S. I have been with Fujifilm since the X-T1. I am a professional Cinematographer and although the Sony and Canon cameras have faster autofocus than the X-T4, when set correctly, my X-T4 does not hunt. You need to know how to set the autofocus. Fujifilm X-T4 is not for beginners. You need to know what you are doing and how to setup the complex autofocus settings.

You are wrong, I wish you were not. Anyone with depth of experience with the Fuji Cameras, and Sony or Canon, will tell you it's just not up the the standard. The setting help, but don't fix the issues, but believe what you want, as long as you are happy with it, thats all the matters.

@@markwiemels Like the saying goes, the proof is on the piddiin. You can see all my videos on my KZfaq channel are filmed with the X-T4 and all my remote livestreams are also done with the X-T4. You don't see any of my videos out of focus and hunting. So like I said, the proof is on the puddin.

Yes, it’s fine when your face fills a good portion of the frame and the video is well lit. All my videos are shot on Fuji as well, but that’s hardly a complicated situation for autofocus, in those situations it’s good enough. In the wild, it can be a disaster, if you leave it up to the camera, like you would with Sony or Canon, it just doesn’t have the smarts to know what to focus on, you have to babysit it, or you have to chase the subject around with the point focus, since it lacks tracking. My Canon cameras are like mind readers, they just know what they should focus on in any scene, you don’t even need to tap or tell them, it’s pretty mind blowing actually.
