SIGIRIYA, SRI LANKA - This was an amazing day in Sri Lanka - we first began the day hiking to Sigiriya, a massive rock formation with a fortress at the top. Afterwards we continued to a family home who prepared us an outstanding Sri Lankan food meal - one of the best of the trip.
We started the hike early in the morning, and already it was getting buy. But immediately as you arrive, you’ll feel a mystic auro to the rock and the entire site. The fortress and palace at the top of the rock was created and developed by King Kasyapa (477 - 495 CE). The mystery is that when he passed away, the empire collapsed and no one really knows what happened. Entrance ticket - $30 USD, a little expensive, but worth it, and a very cool experience.
After we got down from the rock we then drove over to a Sri Lankan village where we met our host family and they had already started cooking an amazing home cooked meal, all in clay pots. One of the highlight dishes was deer meat, both dried and a fresh, cooked in a loads of different Sri Lankan spices. The food was incredible.
Kotchi sambal - But probably my favorite part of the entire meal was watching her make kotchi sambal from scratch - a combination of fresh shredded mature coconut ground with chilies and onions, and a squeeze of lime juice. It was outstanding, and was so good I could have eaten it as a main dish rather than just a garnish side.
It was an amazing day of Sri Lankan food and travel in Sigiriya!

Sigiriya is awesome! I was there last February and loved it! It sure is one of the best attractions of Sri Lanka! In Sri Lanka I found the most friendly, the kindest and greatest people ever! I didn't feel as a tourist, but as if everyone tried to make me feel home! In despite of all recent problems, the images I kept from the country are the best possible, and I encourage all tourists to visit it and don't be afraid!

ayubowan sigiriya! the lion rock is definitely one of my favourite and the most iconic destinations in Sri Lanka. i did climb up to the top and the views from up there were amazingly breathtaking! we can see Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Dambulla with the golden Buddha statue in the distance. you can actually visit the lion rock late in the afternoon, close to the closing time for the cooling weather and beautiful sunset as well. thanks again for reminding me on my Sri Lanka trip and i will make another visit to the beautiful and patient country once the Easter bombing scenes have finally brought to justice completely. such incredible traditional food that making me mouth watering. do try out the cap made from lotus leaf and bud when you sail along Lake Habaranna overlooking Sigiriya.

Yes indeed dear. Indonesia 1500 years ruled by IndianTamil king's and North king's so adapted not only coconut sambal some other food as well. Despite we call kopi for coffee .

I've been watching Mark for a few years now and I must say, his personality, knowledge and the respect he has for EACH and EVERY country/culture he visits is is amazing! I like watching to see how other countries cook similar meals to what I make and give me ideas, but I really just love his energy and vibe!! Kim Han Soo dear it's not a frank that is Srilankan language(Sinhala characters) As a Srilankan we have Unique language just like unique foods and culture. Laser mmw said " Usually Mark eat lots of spices and hot spicy food but after he ate snake chilies his eyes are full of tears. "
