CHIANG RAI, THAILAND - Welcome to Lanjia Lodge (www.asian-oasis.com/lanjia/) in the Chiang Rai province of Northern Thailand. What’s amazing about Lanjia Lodge is that when you stay there, you are directly supporting two of the local Hill Tribe communities - a Hmong village and a Lahu village. Today, we’ve been invited for lunch at the home of the Lahu Shaman. Him and his family shared with us a local Lahu food meal, and it was spectacular.
But really quickly, who are the Lahu people? The Lahu are a people group who originally trace their ancestry back to southern China, Yunnan. In Thailand, the Lahu are known as one of the main Hill Tribes, often living in remote mountainous villages in Northern Thailand.
So today, we headed to the house of the local Lahu Shaman, where he and his family made lunch. There were a number of dishes, including, greens with pork, wild jungle banana blossom with pork, bamboo shoots, and finally rice steamed in a hollowed out log. It was a fantastic home cooked meal, and the dish that probably stood out the most to me was the wild banana flower blossoms - so milky and fresh. Additionally, similar to many Hill Tribes in Thailand, the traditional spoon is more like a natural spork, made from a joint of bamboo that can be used as a spoon, fork, and mini cup, all at the same time. One of the most convenient way to eat ever!
Huge thank you to Lanjia Lodge (www.asian-oasis.com/lanjia/) for arranging this. Highly recommended. The lodge is incredibly beautiful and relaxing. We loved our stay.
Thank you for watching this video!

Anyhoq, ka or krap is Just a formal way ,to say almost anything at the end of a sentence (some men actually pronounce it as ''kap'' without really hearing the R, the case for many words with a ''R'' actually ,unless on tv , thats where the words are more clear than how some ppl talk on a daily basis with family & other ppl...in those cases i know many who spell the R as ''L'' more , really depends sometimes) im also a thai-chinese mixed ethnic from thailand.

There is no question of not liking your videos. Had been to Thailand once. Just Pattaya and Bangkok for 4 days, which is not even scraping the surface of this beautiful country. The insights you give thru your videos about different cultures, communities their cuisines and the fantastic landscapes is truly enlightening. Iv e long back subscribed to your videos. The only other food and travel channel I was so loyal to was of Anthony Bourdain. Miss him and his videos.

I'm Hmong. It's crazy that I can understand what they're saying yet some words and sentences are unbelievably indistinguishable to me. I believe I've only met one Lahu in my lifetime but never have heard their language. Awesome!
@u208839
@u208839 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you are hearing Lahu. Keep in mind that in Thailand and Laos, the minorities will need to learn the dominant language. I believe we have been hearing Lahu speaking Hmong to the guide. We have Mien people working in Hmong farm fields here in CA. When they are with us, they speak perfect Hmong. It doesn’t mean that we’re listening to their native language. Likewise, I speak English but it doesn’t mean that Hmong sounds like English.
