What made Marlon Brando so charismatic was the fact that he was so true to himself. An authentic person who didn't care to fit in and live by the norms of society. I believe that this made him a loner at heart.. especially when we consider the industry he was working for. It takes guts to be like that,..to stand alone and not give a crap.

After THREE YEARS of nominations and THREE YEARS of rejection, Brando finally got his recognition in perhaps the most deserved Oscar ever. This was 60 years ago and everybody there is dead by now but this footage still gives me chills. He was a contender for three years but in 55 he was the heavyweight champion of the world!!!

Wow. I wasn't aware there were any video clips of this era in existence. This has got to be one of the greatest moments in Oscar history. This clip is from an age before they provided the list of category contenders. Here Betty Davis simply announces Marlon Brando the winner of the Best Actor category without mentioning the other actors in contention. Fascinating!

Even Brando's acceptance speech was perfect, so full of humility, no mentioning names and no prolonging the moment. Best of all, no acting. So many acting winners seemed to feel the need to give a performance when they gave acceptance speeches but not him. He was clearly glad but seemed like he couldn't wait to get off the stage. Thanks so much for this!

Initially, Bette Davis was wearing a head covering because she was compelled to shave her head and alter her hairline to play the lead role as Elizabeth in The Virgin Queen. Brando was unbeatable as Terry in Kazan's On The Waterfront. Kazan, who had directed Marlon to three Oscar nominations, including this picture, had cast Sinatra in the lead, until Brando, who was equivocating, committed to the role. It was the best performance, other than Streetcar, that Brando ever gave, and it became the template for all actors during the 50s and 60s.

He is definitely in my Top 100 Greatest Actors of All Time, actually is in my Top 10. His performance is superb in On The Waterfront. His acting skills are breathtakingly emaculate and intricate. I wish he was still here. His films are some of my favourites. I will give him an A+ for his incredible work. 😊😊

James Dean and Marlon Brando. This quick true story told by Brando in one of his biographies, tells us more about Dean than Brando. A short time after Brando made the wild one, apparently Jimmy wanted approval from Brando. So he went out and purchased the entire outfit complete with rolled up jeans and motorcycle, ( Brando rode his own Triumph 1950 Thunderbird 6T in the film). Jimmy drives his motorcycle to a party that Brando was attending, and went up to Brando in Brando’s wild one outfit and started talking to him. Apparently, Brando looking dismayed, said something like, “what are you doing in that outfit” ?Jimmy says, “ I thought you’d like the idea of me doing this out of my admiration for you. Marlon replies “I wore those Levi’s and t-shirts because they were comfortable, I’m flattered that you went through all of this, but you missed the point”. Don’t copy my style of clothing, you have to find yourself, work on acting in a style that says who you are. Brando thought it absurd that Dean would do something like that. It was funny how Brando put it in the book!
