@forensix78 2 ай бұрын
@@WalkwYah “Huh” what? There would be NO Harvey Weinstein without Charlie Chaplin. Not in terms of cinema, but in terms of RAPE. Chaplin invented the casting couch. It was well-known, even at the time. Chaplin’s “rival”, Buster Keaton, even once said that because of the size of Charlie’s member, the casting couch was Chaplin’s only way to actually lay a woman. Keaton, during the culture of the time, was known to NOT have that problem. Furthermore, Chaplin liked them YOUNG. Chaplin initially met his second wife when she was TWELVE YEARS OLD, before impregnating and marrying her at 15/16. Learning from that mistake, Chaplin married his 4th and final wife, Oona, mere weeks after she turned 18. They’d been acquainted for a year prior. He was 54 at the time. Chaplin was the OG Hollywood predator. This is a statement of fact. But, much like Michael Jackson, his influence and prolificacy were so outsized that nobody ACTUALLY cared that much. Minimal impact on legacy. Plus, for Chaplin, he’s got the added advantage of having done all of this nearly 100 years ago. Do I need to explain further?

What a legendary man he was, Oscar was looking for Charlie for his honor. When he said nothing, everyone listened to him. When he understands something, everyone understands. When he cries, everyone cries. When he cries, everyone cries. When he laughs, everyone laughs. Everyone is happy when he prays. When he understands something, everyone accepts it. When he is silent, everyone is silent. Everyone is happy when he works. Everyone cries when he shows emotion.

Charlie didnt want to initially come back to the US to accept the Oscar as he feared the reception towards him would be negative. It was his wife Oona, who convinced him to accept this honour. He was fearful that people would have forgotten him after all the years away from the screen and that his return to the US would be greeted with hostility. You only have to watch this video to see how humble and emotional he was by the audience's reaction to him. Charlie Chaplin was a genius and a true legend.

Calvin Edwin "Cal" Ripken Jr. (born August 24, 1960), nicknamed "The Iron Man", is an American former baseball shortstop and third baseman who played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles (1981-2001). His season highlight came on September 6, 1995, when Ripken surpased Lou Gehrig's 56-year-old record for consecutive games played (2,130 games). The crowd in the stands, the opposing players and all four umpires gave Ripken a standing ovation lasting more than 22 minutes, one of the longest standing ovations for any athlete. During the ovation, Ripken did a lap around the entire Camden Yards warning track to shake hands and give high-fives to the fans.

One must understand Charlie's life when watching this video! Betrayed by a country he loved, he was kicked out of the country. After thirty years, the US finally opened its doors back to him, and offered him this honorary award. If we go back farther, we can see his hopes and dreams as a young child enslaved to an orphanage. His mother in an asylum, his father an alcoholic. Charlie, against all the odds, rose up to become one of the Greats. I can't help but see Charlie's entire life swelling up in the form of tears... He did swell

I would like to have told them that the sooner I was rid of that hate-beleaguered atmosphere the better, that I was fed up of America's insults and moral pomposity ... In my film class during college, we focused largely on Chaplin and how he was literally one of the greatest of all time. I love to see that he is honored with this award.

a true legend and a comedy genius there'll NEVER be another. My mum wept during this part of the ceremony and I knew why. I was ten back then.

My band used to play Chaplin's speech before our shows. Still one of my favorite speeches of all time and it's from comedian, actor, and entertainer like Chaplin. He hit the nail smack dab on the head. That's why it's still SO powerful. The Great Dictator: Chaplin.
